Final: Denver beat Seattle 17-14 in overtime at Empower Field at Mile High on Thursday night. Wil Lutz kicked a 53 yard field goal with 4:56 left in overtime to win it. Denver moves to 4-2. Seattle falls to 3-3.
Seattle led 3-0 on a 55 yard field goal by Jason Myers in the first quarter. Denver took control in the second quarter. J.K. Dobbins ran in from 4 yards, and RJ Harvey scored from 1 yard on a direct snap, for a 14-3 lead at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and Myers missed a 47 yard try for Seattle.
Seattle came back in the fourth quarter. George Holani ran in from 1 yard, and Sam Darnold found Rashid Shaheed for the two point conversion, cutting the lead to 14-11. Kris Abrams-Draine intercepted Darnold late as Seattle drove for a go ahead score, but Denver went three and out. Myers then kicked a 34 yard field goal in the final seconds to tie the game 14-14 and send it to overtime.
Denver won the overtime coin toss and chose to start on defense, Broncos Wire reported. Ja'Quan McMillian intercepted Darnold in overtime, the second interception of the night for Darnold, and gave Denver strong field position. Lutz finished the short drive with the winning kick, USA Today and Sportradar reported.
Week 6 of the NFL season opens on Thursday night with the matchup Sports Illustrated ranked first on its slate. The Seattle Seahawks (3-2) visit the Denver Broncos (3-2) at Empower Field at Mile High, with kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
SI called the game a possible preview of Super Bowl LXI and a rematch of Super Bowl XLVIII from the 2013 season. Both teams will wear throwback uniforms, which SI listed as one more reason to watch.
How to watch Seahawks at Broncos
Prime Video carries the game nationally, with Al Michaels on play-by-play, Kirk Herbstreit as analyst and Kaylee Hartung on the sideline, Broncos Wire reported. Local television carries it in Denver on KMGH and in Seattle on KCPQ. Fans can also stream on mobile through Twitch at no cost, or through NFL+ with a paid plan, and Westwood One carries the radio call.
Kickoff times: 8:15 p.m. ET, 7:15 p.m. CT, 6:15 p.m. MT in Denver and 5:15 p.m. PT in Seattle.
Where both teams stand
Seattle arrives after a three-point loss to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend. Denver arrives after edging the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Both sit at 3-2, and the winner leaves Thursday alone at 4-2 before the rest of Week 6 plays out on Sunday.
Denver leads the all-time series 35-23, dating back to when both teams played in the AFC West, Broncos Wire noted, but Seattle is the road favorite. Covers, in its Thursday morning preview, had Seattle favored by 2.5 points with a total of 40.5, and pointed to a defense test for Denver quarterback Bo Nix: Seattle leads the NFL in yards allowed per play, while Nix has failed to reach 190 passing yards in three of his five games.
This preview was published before kickoff and is not a result. Check back here after the final whistle for the score and the recap.
