New Jersey scored four times in the second period and beat the New York Rangers 7-1 in Newark on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Luke Hughes scored two of the four second period goals. It was the loudest result on a six game night in the Eastern Conference, and three of the six games went past regulation.

Devils 7, Rangers 1

Evan Rodrigues opened the scoring with 30 seconds left in the first period, taking advantage of a giveaway. Hughes made it 2-0 just 18 seconds into the second period. Nico Hischier scored just over four minutes into the period, and Arseny Gritsyuk added a fourth goal 31 seconds later. That ended the night for Rangers goalie Dylan Garand, who gave up four goals. Spencer Martin played the rest of the game in relief.

Hughes scored his second goal with 3 minutes 26 seconds left in the second period to make it 5-0. Stefan Noesen made it 6-0 early in the third. Pavel Dorofeyev scored on a power play for the Rangers. Cody Glass closed the scoring at 7-1 with just over five minutes left. Devils goalie Nico Daws stopped 18 shots. The Rangers had not given up more than three goals in a game this season before Thursday.

Panthers 3, Canucks 2, in overtime

Vancouver led Florida 2-0 after the first period in Sunrise. Liam Ohgren scored at 7 minutes 23 seconds and Elias Pettersson scored at 17 minutes 6 seconds. Florida stayed scoreless through the second period, even with heavy pressure and a 39 to 17 edge in shots for the game.

Brady Tkachuk took over in the third. He scored at 11 minutes 11 seconds, tied the game at 19 minutes 47 seconds, with 13 seconds left in regulation, and won it at 2 minutes 23 seconds of overtime. It was his second hat trick in two games. Canucks goalie Leevi Merilainen made 36 saves in the loss. Vancouver fell to 2-6.

Sabres 5, Maple Leafs 4, in overtime

Toronto led Buffalo 4-2 after two periods in Toronto, helped by a hat trick from Kirill Marchenko. Buffalo came back in the third. Jack Quinn scored twice for Buffalo. Auston Matthews scored for Toronto. Leafs forward John Tavares left the game during the third period after a collision, and the team gave no immediate update on his condition.

Senators 2, Islanders 1, in a shootout

Shane Pinto scored the only goal of the shootout in Ottawa. Matias Maccelli put the Islanders ahead with 11.2 seconds left in the first period. Ridly Greig tied it late in the second period. Senators goalie Linus Ullmark made 20 saves and stopped Simon Holmstrom in the shootout to end it. Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov made 18 saves. Ottawa improved to 6-2-0 and New York fell to 3-3-1.

Red Wings 2, Flyers 1, and Lightning 4, Kraken 3

Detroit came from a goal down to beat Philadelphia 2-1 in Detroit, scoring once in the second period and once in the third. Philadelphia fell to 0-6. Tampa Bay beat Seattle 4-3 in overtime in Tampa. The Kraken tied it twice in the third period before the Lightning won it in the extra period.

What it means

Score searches spike in the hour after the final horn, and Thursday gave fans three overtime finishes in one night. The Devils result stands out most. A 7-1 win over a rival, with a defenseman scoring twice, is the kind of line that travels fast. Florida will take the points too, but the way they arrived, down two goals with nine minutes left, says more about Brady Tkachuk right now than about the standings in October.
