LOS ANGELES. The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series for the first time since 1982. Milwaukee beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium, finishing a 4-0 sweep of the National League Championship Series.

The win looked unlikely after two innings. Los Angeles scored four runs in the second inning, a burst capped by a three run home run from Shohei Ohtani. The home crowd was loud, the Dodgers led 4-0, and Milwaukee had five hits all night still to come.

The comeback

Milwaukee started its reply in the fourth inning. Jake Bauers hit a ground rule double to right field that scored Brice Turang and William Contreras, cutting the lead to 4-2.

The Brewers tied the game in the fifth. David Hamilton singled to center field and Sal Frelick scored. Hamilton later scored himself when Bauers drew a walk, and the game was level at 4-4. Four runs down had become a tie game in two innings, against a Los Angeles team playing to stay alive.

Garrett Mitchell put Milwaukee ahead in the sixth. He hit a solo home run to center field off Tanner Scott, the fifth straight run for the Brewers and the run that decided the game. The Milwaukee bullpen held Los Angeles scoreless the rest of the way.

Hamilton added one more run in the ninth, a solo home run to right center field, for a 6-4 lead. Los Angeles had no answer in the bottom of the inning, and the sweep was complete.

The end of a three peat bid

Los Angeles came into this series as the winner of the last two World Series, chasing a third straight title. No National League club has won three in a row. That run ends in four games, at home, after a series in which Milwaukee won 2-1, 7-4, 6-2 and 6-4.

Milwaukee, by contrast, has waited 44 years for this. The Brewers have reached the World Series once before, in 1982, when they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games as an American League team. This is the club's first National League pennant.

What comes next

Milwaukee now waits for the American League winner. The Cleveland Guardians lead the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in the American League Championship Series after Game 3, and that series will decide who meets the Brewers.

The World Series starts on Friday, Oct 23, 2026. Milwaukee will have a full week to rest its pitchers, set its rotation, and let a city that has waited since 1982 get ready.
