Key points
- Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's T20I batter rankings, displacing his India teammate Ishan Kishan.
- Abhishek's rise followed his century against New Zealand in Wellington in the third T20I on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
- The change at the top is a reversal between two India batters.
Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's T20I batter rankings, displacing his India teammate Ishan Kishan. Marco Jansen has become the No. 1 ranked Test bowler and the No. 1 ranked Test all-rounder for the first time in his career, in the same ICC rankings update.
Abhishek back on top in T20 cricket
Abhishek's rise followed his century against New Zealand in Wellington in the third T20I on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He reached his hundred in 35 balls and finished with 113 runs from 38 deliveries. India won the match by six wickets and clinched the series with that result.
The change at the top is a reversal between two India batters. Kishan had taken the No. 1 T20I batter position from Abhishek in July 2026. Abhishek first reached No. 1 in July 2025, when he overtook Australia's Travis Head. He has now returned to the top spot after the Wellington innings, with Kishan moving down after holding the position since July.
In the T20I bowling rankings in the same update, India's Arshdeep Singh climbed to 15th place. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner rose to seventh place. Those moves were reported by ESPNcricinfo and IANS in their coverage of the ICC update.
Jansen reaches the top in Test cricket
Jansen's rise followed South Africa's win over Australia in the second Test in Gqeberha. He scored 85 runs in that match and took a five wicket haul in Australia's first innings. That combined performance with bat and ball lifted him to the top of two separate Test lists at the same time.
In the Test bowling rankings, Jansen climbed five spots to overtake Australia's Mitchell Starc at the top. In the Test all-rounder rankings, he rose one place to displace India's Ravindra Jadeja as the leading player. Jadeja had held the all-rounder top spot for more than four years, so Jansen's move ends a long run at No. 1 for the India player. The ICC said this is the first time in Jansen's career that he has held either top position.
Bavuma climbs to second among Test batters
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma also moved up in the same update. He jumped four spots to second place in the Test batter rankings after scoring 179 runs in the first innings against Australia in Gqeberha. Bavuma was named Player of the Match for that performance. South Africa's win in the second Test levelled the three match series at 1-1.
The update therefore brought changes at the top of three major lists. Abhishek leads the T20I batters again after his 113 in Wellington. Jansen leads both the Test bowlers and the Test all-rounders after his 85 runs and five wicket haul in Gqeberha. Bavuma sits second among Test batters after his 179 in the same match.
