Houston Dynamo beat the Seattle Sounders 1-0 at Lumen Field in Seattle on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Lucas Halter scored the only goal in the 26th minute. The win was Houston's first ever on the road in Seattle, and Halter's goal set a league record on the same night.
A goal that made league history
Halter headed in a corner kick from Mateusz Bogusz in the 26th minute. It was Halter's first goal in his 20th MLS appearance this year, and it was Bogusz's fifth assist of the season. The goal was the 1,553rd goal of the 2026 MLS season. That total passed the previous single season record of 1,552 goals, set in 2024, according to Major League Soccer. Several more goals followed across the league later that night, with two more matchdays still to play in the regular season.
Houston created little else. Seattle outshot Houston 21-2, and Halter's header was Houston's only shot on frame. The Dynamo still held the lead for more than an hour, built on defending in numbers and on a strong night from their goalkeeper.
Bond holds the lead
Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond made six saves to preserve the shutout. His last save was the biggest one. Bond knocked away a Paul Arriola header in second half stoppage time, on Seattle's last chance of the match. Seattle goalkeeper Andrew Thomas did not have a save to make, which shows how one sided the chances were after Halter scored.
The result ended a long run of failure for Houston in Seattle. The Dynamo entered the match with a 0-13-4 all time record on the road against the Sounders, and they had not earned even a point in Seattle since 2016. This time they left with all three points.
What it means in the West
The win moved Houston, now 14-9-9, into fourth place in the Western Conference, according to the Associated Press. The top four teams in each conference earn home field advantage in the best of three first round of the playoffs. Seattle fell to eighth place in the West at 11-11-10, with two matches left. Seattle sits two points ahead of the 10th place Los Angeles Galaxy. The top nine teams in each conference reach the postseason, and the eighth and ninth place teams meet in a wild card match.
Seattle also lost a player for its next match. Midfielder Peter Kingston was booked in the 65th minute and is suspended for card accumulation. Houston had drawn four straight matches this month before Wednesday, while Seattle came into the match off back to back ties. Seattle had beaten Houston 1-0 in Houston in April, so this result reversed that score. Next, Houston plays at the Portland Timbers, and Seattle plays at the Vancouver Whitecaps.
