Chicago Fire came back from two goals down to draw Orlando City SC 2-2 at Soldier Field on Wednesday, October 28, in a regular season match that became another record night for Antoine Griezmann. Orlando led 2-0 after 35 minutes and looked set for a win that could have settled its playoff place. Chicago instead scored twice in a 12 minute span in the second half and closed its home schedule at the stadium with a point.

Orlando struck first in the sixth minute, when Ivan Angulo scored with Griezmann providing the assist, his eighth of the season. Griezmann then scored himself in the 35th minute to make it 2-0. He took the ball outside the penalty area and curled a left-footed shot around a defender and an outstretched Chris Brady into the top left corner. The league described the goal as a contender for its Goal of the Year award, and it gave Orlando full control of the match at that stage.

A streak only three players had reached before

The goal and the assist made Griezmann the fourth player in MLS history to record a goal or an assist in at least 12 consecutive regular season matches, according to the league. It is also the longest such streak by any player in the league this season. Griezmann now has 14 goals and 8 assists since he joined Orlando in the summer from Atletico Madrid, for 22 goal contributions in total. Wednesday's goal was his sixth across a five match scoring run. Orlando's record in all competitions in matches in which Griezmann has scored now stands at 8 wins, no losses and 4 draws.

Chicago answer after the break

Chicago held a 21 to 9 advantage in shots on the night but had nothing to show for it until the second half. Jonathan Bamba cut the lead in the 57th minute, and 12 minutes later he turned provider, assisting Maren Haile-Selassie for the tying goal in the 69th minute. Both teams finished with six shots on target. Brady made four saves for Chicago, and Maxime Crepeau made four saves for Orlando. The draw also extended Chicago's unbeaten run against Orlando to five matches, with three wins and two draws.

What the point means

The draw extended Orlando's unbeaten streak to five matches, with two wins and three draws in that span. It was not the result Orlando wanted, though. Orlando could have clinched a place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs with a victory and a Columbus Crew setback against FC Dallas. Columbus won its match, and Orlando let a two goal lead slip, so the playoff place was still not settled at the final whistle. Orlando sits seventh in the Eastern Conference at 12 wins, 13 losses and 7 draws for 43 points. Chicago is fourth in the East at 15 wins, 10 losses and 7 draws for 52 points.
