Key points

  • Chelsea moved to the top of the Women's Champions League standings on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with a 2-0 win over Roma in London.
  • Chelsea controlled the first half without scoring.
  • In Munich, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid drew 2-2.

Chelsea moved to the top of the Women's Champions League standings on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with a 2-0 win over Roma in London. Ellie Carpenter broke the deadlock in the 51st minute and Kadeisha Buchanan headed in the second in the 89th minute. The win took Chelsea to seven points from three games, one point clear at the top for now, with Barcelona still to play HB Koge on Thursday.

Chelsea controlled the first half without scoring. Alyssa Thompson hit the crossbar early after Roma goalkeeper Rachele Baldi palmed her fierce shot into the air, and Lauren James forced another save from Baldi. Aggie Beever-Jones was denied by a last-ditch challenge from Shukurat Oladipo, and Wieke Kaptein shot over the bar. Manager Sonia Bompastor changed the game at half time, sending on Carpenter and Sjoeke Nusken for Thompson and James. Six minutes after the restart, Carpenter ran into the box and converted Kaptein's cut-back, the shot squeezing under Baldi. Roma's best chance came in the 80th minute, when Alayah Pilgrim cut inside past Lucy Bronze, who captained Chelsea on her 35th birthday, and shot over. Buchanan then met Kaptein's cross from a short corner and headed into the net a minute from time.

Bayern fight back against Madrid

In Munich, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid drew 2-2. There was a minute's silence before kick-off in memory of the victims of the train crash near Madrid earlier on Wednesday, and the Madrid players wore black armbands. Athenea del Castillo put Madrid ahead in the seventh minute, and Lineth Beerensteyn, a former Bayern forward, headed in the second about 15 minutes later for her first Champions League goal for Madrid. Bayern replied before half time when Edna Imade powered in a header from Klara Buhl's corner. Momoko Tanikawa levelled in the 52nd minute, curling the ball in from the edge of the box after Madrid goalkeeper Merle Frohms had parried a shot from Linda Dallmann. Neither side found a winner in the last 40 minutes.

Servette rout Leuven

In Geneva, Servette beat OH Leuven 5-1. Paola Hernandez and Gloria Marinelli scored two goals each for the Swiss side, who led 3-0 at half time and added two more after the break, with Leuven scoring once in the second half.

What it means

Chelsea's unbeaten start, two wins and a draw, puts pressure on Barcelona ahead of their game on Thursday. Bayern stay unbeaten at home in the competition after the comeback, while Madrid let a two-goal lead slip for the second time in the league phase. The later games on Wednesday, Arsenal against Benfica and Lyon against Inter Milan, were still in play when these early matches finished, and the round continues on Thursday.
