  • The win was Malott's fifth in a row, all of them in Canada, and his second straight main event finish, UFC.com reported.

EDMONTON. Mike Malott knocked out Joaquin Buckley with a knee at 2:32 of the second round on Saturday night to win the UFC Edmonton main event at Rogers Place. The Canadian welterweight caught Buckley on the chin as Buckley dipped in to throw, sent him face first to the canvas, and landed one follow up punch before the referee stopped the fight.

The first round was quiet. Both men landed a handful of shots, Malott with the heavier kicks and Buckley with more punches, and neither took control. The second round opened with clinch work along the cage, where Malott landed hard knees to the body. When they separated, Malott threw a head kick and his knee connected flush on Buckley's jaw. Buckley's mouthpiece flew out as he fell, according to Sherdog, and the home crowd erupted.

Five straight wins in Canada

The win was Malott's fifth in a row, all of them in Canada, and his second straight main event finish, UFC.com reported. Malott, 34, improved to 15 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw in MMA, and 8 wins and 1 loss in the UFC. The result should put him in the welterweight top 10 when the rankings update next week, UFC.com said. Buckley, 32, fell to 21 wins and 9 losses and has now lost three fights in a row, after defeats to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady.

Jasudavicius upsets Blanchfield

In the co-main event, Canada's Jasmine Jasudavicius beat Erin Blanchfield by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the flyweight fight 29-28. Jasudavicius took Blanchfield down in the first round, moved to her back and held a body triangle while she hunted for a choke for close to three minutes. She repeated the pattern in the second round, taking the back again after a long scramble and finishing the round on top.

Blanchfield, who needed a finish, won the third round with pressure and clean punches. Jasudavicius slowed the rally with a late takedown and rode out the final seconds on top. The win took Jasudavicius to 16 wins and 4 losses, and 10 wins and 3 losses in the UFC. Blanchfield fell to 14 wins and 3 losses. After the fight, Jasudavicius said she felt unbelievable and called to face Natalia Silva again, MMA Junkie reported. The two have a history, and Silva holds the flyweight title picture in front of her.

A night of finishes

UFC.com said the Edmonton card tied the record for the most stoppages in a single UFC event. The first 11 fights all ended inside the distance, and 12 of the 13 fights on the card did not need the judges. The only decision was the co-main event.

Cristian Perez knocked out Kyle Nelson with punches at 27 seconds of the first round in his UFC debut. Marc-Andre Barriault stopped Kyle Daukaus by TKO at 4:28 of the first round. Timmy Cuamba submitted Louis Jourdain with a neck crank at 2:48 of the second round, and Mandel Nallo stopped Nate Landwehr by TKO at 47 seconds of the second. On the prelims, Tanner Boser stopped Jhonata Diniz in the third round, and Nick Galanti, Joel Faglier, Katlyn Cerminara, Steven Koslow, Chelsea Chandler and SuYoung You also won by stoppage.
