The Atlanta Hawks beat the Washington Wizards 120-105 at Capital One Arena on Wednesday night, winning all four quarters behind 19 three-pointers and a 26-point night from Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The game was the first meeting between Washington guard Trae Young and the team that traded him in January, and Atlanta spoiled it.

Alexander-Walker hit six three-pointers and tied for a game-high 26 points, the Associated Press reported. He had tied his career high with nine three-pointers in a win at Indiana on Monday. Onyeka Okongwu added 14 points and 16 rebounds. Dyson Daniels finished with eight points, eight assists and 16 rebounds as Atlanta won the glass 63-48, according to Reuters. CJ McCollum and Aaron Wiggins scored 15 points each.

Young faces his old team

Young scored 18 points for Washington in his first game against Atlanta since the January trade that ended his run as the face of the Hawks. Anthony Davis led the Wizards with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Kyshawn George added 25. Washington trailed through the final three quarters but cut the lead to four twice in the third, the second time on a Young step-back three that made it 83-79. Corey Kispert, one of the players Atlanta received in the Young trade, answered with a four-point play on the next possession, and the game never got closer than six again, the AP reported.

Atlanta did it with depth from distance. The Hawks made 19 of 49 three-pointers while Washington made 6 of 26, a gap that erased the Wizards' 62-50 edge in points in the paint, Reuters reported. Atlanta also played without All-Star forward Jalen Johnson, who missed his second straight game with a sprained left ankle.

The quarter scores underline the control: 37-32, 31-29, 25-24 and 27-20, every one to Atlanta. Rookie Kingston Flemings made his first career start for the Hawks and scored 14 points, according to Peachtree Hoops. Okongwu and Daniels gave Atlanta two 16-rebound players on the same night.

What is next

Atlanta has won three of its last four games, and Washington's two-game winning streak ended. The same teams meet again on Friday night in Atlanta in an NBA Cup game, so Young gets his return trip to his old arena 48 hours after the first round went to his former team.
