Warriors Beat Heat 120-100 as Curry Scores 29 in Thompson Return Game

The Golden State Warriors beat the Miami Heat 120-100 at Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday night, November 5. Stephen Curry scored a game high 29 points, 22 of them after halftime, and Golden State won its sixth straight game. Klay Thompson, now with Miami, scored 11 points in his return game against his old team.

Curry takes over after halftime

Curry scored 7 points on 2 of 10 shooting in a quiet first half, and Golden State trailed by as many as 10 points. His layup with 1:38 left in the second quarter gave the Warriors their first lead, and the game turned in the third. Curry scored 14 points in the third quarter with three 3 pointers, Golden State ran 12-0, and the Warriors outscored Miami 38-23 to lead by 15 going into the fourth. Curry added 8 points in the fourth and finished one point short of a fourth straight 30 point game.

His line was 29 points in 27 minutes and 57 seconds, on 9 of 19 shooting, 6 of 12 from three and 5 of 5 on free throws, with 1 rebound, 4 assists, 1 steal, no turnovers and plus 17. Miami won the first quarter 29-26, Golden State won the second 27-24 and the fourth 29-24. Curry is shooting 61.9 percent from three in third quarters this season, 13 of 21.

Thompson returns to Chase Center

Thompson and Curry met at half court during pregame warmups. Curry then guarded Thompson from the opening tip, and in the first quarter Thompson blocked Curry at the rim after Curry beat him on a back cut. Thompson finished with 11 points in 23 minutes and 8 seconds, on 3 of 10 shooting and 2 of 7 from three, with 3 assists and 2 blocks. Former Warrior Andrew Wiggins scored 2 points, so the two combined for 13 points.

Lendeborg, Horford and Green support Curry

Yaxel Lendeborg scored 17 points with 8 rebounds and 6 assists for Golden State. Georges Niang scored 13 points off the bench, and Will Richard and Brandon Williams scored 10 each. Al Horford scored 8 points on a perfect 3 of 3 from the field and 2 of 2 from three, with a game high plus 21. Draymond Green scored 2 points but had 11 assists, five more than any other Warrior, and plus 13. Golden State posted a defensive rating of 96.2.

Davion Mitchell led Miami with 22 points and 8 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Bam Adebayo had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Conwell and Pelle Larsson scored 13 points each.

Team numbers and what comes next

Golden State shot 52.5 percent, 42 of 80, made 16 of 41 three pointers, and recorded 36 assists, 11 steals and 9 blocks, with 50 points in the paint and 21 fast break points. Miami shot 40.7 percent, 35 of 86, and made 13 of 44 three pointers. The crowd was 18,064.

The win moved Golden State to 6-3, second in the Pacific Division, at 4-1 at home and 2-2 on the road. Golden State next hosts Orlando on Saturday, November 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET. Miami fell to 3-6, ninth in the Eastern Conference, and next visits Sacramento on Sunday, November 8, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
