Corning reported third quarter results on Tuesday that beat Wall Street expectations, with net income rising 58 percent to $680 million, or 78 cents a share, up from $430 million, or 50 cents a share, a year earlier.
Core earnings were 91 cents a share. That figure beat the Wall Street estimate of 88 cents a share reported by FactSet, and it also came in above the Zacks consensus of 89 cents a share. Sales rose 18 percent to $4.86 billion. Core sales rose 19 percent to $5.08 billion, beating the mean Wall Street target of $5.03 billion.
Optical communications leads the growth
Optical Communications sales rose 44 percent year over year to $2.38 billion. Within that business, Enterprise Networks sales grew 84 percent, and sales of generative AI products grew more than 100 percent year over year, according to the company third quarter release carried by Business Wire.
The optical result was the largest segment figure in the release. It shows where much of the growth in the quarter came from. Demand linked to generative AI products more than doubled from a year earlier, while Enterprise Networks sales also rose at a rate well above the company core sales growth of 19 percent.
Solar segment sales grew 37 percent year over year. The company said production continued to ramp, albeit at a slower pace than anticipated. That slower ramp was the one note of caution in the segment figures released for the quarter, set against the much faster growth in optical communications and in generative AI products.
Fourth quarter guidance above analyst targets
For the fourth quarter, Corning expects core sales of $5.2 billion to $5.3 billion, up about 19 percent year over year. The company expects core earnings of $0.96 to $1.00 a share, up about 36 percent year over year. That earnings range is ahead of the average analyst target of 93 cents a share.
The guidance means the company expects the sales growth rate seen in the third quarter to hold in the fourth quarter, with core sales again rising about 19 percent. It also means the company expects earnings growth to stay well above sales growth, at about 36 percent for core earnings per share.
Corning shares rose 3.2 percent in premarket trading on Tuesday after the results and guidance beat expectations. The share move followed a report in which profit, sales and segment growth all came in above the targets cited in the release and in the Dow Jones report of the results.
The results were reported on Tuesday, Oct 27, 2026. The headline numbers from the quarter are net income of $680 million, core earnings of 91 cents a share, core sales of $5.08 billion, optical communications sales of $2.38 billion, and fourth quarter guidance that sits above the average analyst target for earnings.
