The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night in Game 3 of the World Series at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, to lead the series 3-0. Milwaukee scored eight runs with two outs in the fifth inning and outhit Tampa Bay 16 to 3. The Brewers are one win from the first World Series championship in franchise history.
Gasser faces the minimum through six innings
Milwaukee starter Robert Gasser allowed one hit over six scoreless innings, walked one and struck out three on 75 pitches. Yandy Diaz singled to open the bottom of the first, but Chandler Simpson was caught stealing, and Gasser retired the next 14 batters. Victor Mesa Jr. walked to open the sixth, then Nick Fortes grounded into a double play, so Gasser faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings. The Elias Sports Bureau said Milwaukee was the first team to face the minimum through seven innings of a World Series game since the perfect game by Don Larsen in 1956. Antonio Senzatela added a perfect seventh and worked two scoreless innings in relief.
Two runs in the third, then a record fifth inning
The Brewers scored first in the third inning against Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta, a former Brewer. Jackson Chourio singled, Jake Bauers walked, and Christian Yelich singled to score Chourio. William Contreras followed with a single that scored Bauers after a misplay by right fielder Victor Mesa Jr., and Milwaukee led 2-0.
The fifth inning decided the game. Peralta retired David Hamilton and Jake Bauers around a Chourio single, but Yelich walked and Contreras reached on an infield single when Yelich slid ahead of the force play at second, a call replay overturned. Milwaukee then strung together seven straight hits, all with two outs. Brice Turang singled in two runs, Garrett Mitchell singled in one, Cooper Pratt doubled in two, Sal Frelick doubled in one, Hamilton singled in one, and Chourio doubled in the eighth run of the inning. USA Today reported that it was the first time in World Series history that a team recorded seven two out hits and scored eight two out runs in one inning.
Chourio collects four hits as Tampa Bay scores late
Chourio finished with four hits, two runs, a double, a stolen base and one run batted in. He is the youngest player with four hits in a World Series game since Joe Garagiola in 1946, according to ESPN reporting cited by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and the first player with four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game since Roberto Alomar in 1993. Contreras and Turang each had three hits for Milwaukee.
Peralta took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and three walks in four and two thirds innings. Cam Booser replaced him and gave up four runs on four hits without recording an out. Tampa Bay scored its only run in the ninth inning against Brandon Woodruff, who pitched for the first time since July. Cedric Mullins singled and Yandy Diaz doubled him home with two outs, and Jonathan Aranda grounded out to end the game.

Game 4 is on Tuesday, October 27, at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay must win four straight games, and no team has recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series.
