Alvin Tedjo has been elected mayor of Mississauga, Ontario, in the municipal election held on Monday, October 26, 2026. The CP24 and CTV Election Desk projected Tedjo the winner, and CBC News also projected his victory. With all polls reporting, Tedjo won 39.2 percent of the vote and 74,479 votes, beating incumbent mayor Carolyn Parrish by more than 22,600 votes.

"Mississauga has voted for change," Tedjo told supporters. He added: "Today, the city of Mississauga has made a clear and historic choice to demand a change at city hall. My friends, it is beyond a doubt the honor of a lifetime to stand here as your next mayor of the city of Mississauga. This is a tremendous responsibility that I do not take lightly." Former mayor Bonnie Crombie, who finished third, said: "I have called Alvin Tedjo, and I have congratulated him on his victory and the honour of becoming our city's next mayor."

The final count

Parrish finished second with 27.3 percent of the vote. Crombie took third place with 22.7 percent. The final tallies reported by CBC News, with 100 percent of polls reporting shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Monday, were Tedjo on 74,479 votes, Parrish on 51,853 votes, Crombie on 43,191 votes and Dipika Damerla in fourth place with 11,500 votes.

The result was already clear earlier in the night. At 9:16 p.m. ET, with about 97 percent of polls reporting, city unofficial results carried by CP24 and Global News put Tedjo on 71,025 votes, Parrish on 49,779 votes and Crombie on 41,383 votes. The City of Mississauga said the results remain unofficial until further notice.

Turnout and the new council

Voter turnout was 33.9 percent of eligible voters, up from 21.8 percent in the 2022 municipal election. On council, every incumbent councillor who ran for re-election was successful. The only new faces are in Ward 2 and Ward 7. Tom Ellard won in Ward 2 and Lucas Alves won in Ward 7, taking the seats vacated by Tedjo and by Damerla, who both left council to run for mayor.

A second run that worked

Tedjo is 41 years old and a father of three. He came to Canada at age four and has served on Mississauga council since 2022 as the Ward 2 councillor. This was his second run for mayor. In the June 2024 mayoral by-election he finished second to Parrish, with about 25 percent of the vote to her 31 percent.

He campaigned this time on a two-year city-wide residential property tax freeze on the city portion of the bill, an increased property tax rebate for seniors, and more affordable and accessible city programs for families.

The climb in the polls

In Liaison Strategies polling in August 2026, Tedjo had 12 percent support while Parrish and Crombie were tied at 35 percent. By October 22, 2026, he had climbed to 31 percent, just behind Crombie, according to CBC reporting of the Liaison surveys. On election night he passed both rivals and finished more than eleven points ahead of Parrish.

Tedjo now has to deliver the tax freeze and the seniors rebate he promised, with a council made up mostly of returning incumbents plus two new members in the wards he and Damerla left behind.
