How the series reached 3-0
Milwaukee won the first two games at home by one run each, 3-2 in Game 1 and 5-4 in Game 2. Game 3 in Tampa Bay was not close. The Brewers won 10-1 on Monday, breaking the game open with an eight run fifth inning in which 12 batters came to the plate. Across three games Milwaukee has outscored Tampa Bay 18-7, according to NBC Sports. William Contreras is 7 for 13 in the series and Jackson Chourio is 8 for 14, according to BVM Sports.
Milwaukee has won eight games in a row dating back to the National League Division Series. Outfielder Sal Frelick said the team would treat tonight like a deciding game. "We're going to treat it like a Game 7," Frelick said, in comments reported by USA Today.
Pitching and what is at stake
Griffin Jax starts for Tampa Bay. Jax went 8-10 with a 3.53 earned run average in the regular season and has a 6.00 ERA across two appearances this postseason, according to the published pitching lines. Milwaukee had not named a Game 4 starter by midday Tuesday and was expected to use a bullpen game, with its main relievers rested.
Neither club has won a World Series. Milwaukee lost its only earlier appearance, in 1982, to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Tampa Bay had the best record in the American League in the regular season. No World Series has ended in a sweep since 2012, and only one team in Major League Baseball history has won a best of seven series after losing the first three games.
If Tampa Bay wins, Game 5 is Wednesday, October 28 at Tropicana Field. If Milwaukee wins tonight, the series ends and the Brewers take the title in St. Petersburg.
