A private jet carrying singer and actor Donnie Wahlberg and his team ran off the end of a runway at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Sunday morning and hit a perimeter fence. No one was injured, airport officials said.
The aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 50 business jet, went off runway 1L at about 11 a.m. during a planned takeoff, said airport spokesperson Monika Bertaki, the Associated Press reported. She did not say what caused the jet to leave the runway. A flight tracking map shared on social media showed the jet turning onto the runway, running past the end of the pavement and veering to the right before it stopped at the fence, the New York Post reported.
Wahlberg, 57, later told fans in a social media video filmed near the fence that he and his team and friends were the people on board. "We are all okay. We were taking off and did not get up in the air and ran out of runway," he said. "These pilots saved our lives." He said the plane avoided trucks, heavy equipment and dumpsters beyond the fence, and that the jet took some damage while the people on board did not. His wife, Jenny McCarthy, and other performers posted messages of relief under his video, Parade reported.
Two runways closed, flights paused
The airport closed runways 1R and 1L for inspection after the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily paused planned flights to the airport, and travellers faced delays. Local station KSNV reported that the ground stop lasted more than two hours and that delays ran into the evening.
Harry Reid is one of the busiest airports in the United States for leisure travel. As of August, it had recorded more than 370,000 takeoffs and landings and more than 34 million passengers in 2026, the Associated Press reported.
The morning after the final show
Wahlberg was in Las Vegas with New Kids on the Block, the group he has sung with since the 1980s. The group played the 40th and final concert of its residency, called The Right Stuff, at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Saturday night, October 17, hours before the Sunday morning flight, Parade reported.
Wahlberg is also known to television audiences for playing Danny Reagan in the police dramas Blue Bloods and Boston Blue. In his video he said the group had just finished praying before takeoff, and that he looked out of the window and told himself the plane was not getting into the air that day.
Officials have not said how many people were on the jet, where it was heading, or when the closed runways would return to full use. No cause has been announced.
