Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti announced on Monday that Jalen Williams suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle in Sunday night's win over the LA Clippers, and that Williams will undergo surgery. Presti said Williams is out indefinitely, and that a recovery timeline will be released only after the operation. ESPN reported that both Williams and Cason Wallace are expected to miss several months, if not the entire season.

Presti also announced that Cason Wallace suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder in the same game, and that Wallace will also undergo surgery and is out indefinitely, with a timeline to follow after the procedure. Wallace, 22, signed a five year, $139 million extension before the season and had moved into the starting lineup on a regular basis.

Presti said he had been in contact with Williams, who was determined to move forward. "He's as tough as they come. He's an elite competitor," Presti said, in the remarks reported by USA Today. "Even last night, just miraculous in terms of his outlook in the way he's looking forward to attacking this. And, you know, we're going to be with him the entire way." Presti said "things could have been a lot worse," and called the Williams injury one more associated with contact sports like football.

Williams, 25, an All-Star and All-NBA player, was fouled on a drive with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, landed awkwardly, and was stretchered off after his left leg collapsed and his ankle bent at an unnatural angle. This replaces the position when this article was first published, when no official diagnosis had been announced. No return date has been given for either player.

The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the LA Clippers 108-101 at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on Sunday night, behind 34 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Oklahoma City improved to 3-0, while the Clippers fell to 1-2.

Jalen Williams was stretchered off with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter after landing awkwardly, and no official diagnosis has been announced.

Quarter by quarter control

Oklahoma City won the first quarter 23-20, then lost the second quarter 26-20 and trailed 46-43 at halftime. The Thunder won the third quarter 34-30 and the fourth quarter 31-25 to close the game.

Gilgeous-Alexander changed the game in the third quarter. He scored 16 points in that quarter on 7 of 11 shooting after the halftime deficit.

Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder support

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 34 points on 13 of 26 shooting and 7 of 8 free throws, with 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 36 minutes. Ajay Mitchell added 18 points and 6 rebounds for Oklahoma City.

Isaiah Hartenstein had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Caruso had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and Chet Holmgren scored 10 points.

Oklahoma City scored 64 points in the paint to the Clippers 36, and forced 26 Clippers turnovers.

Clippers scoring in the loss

Darius Garland led the Clippers with 16 points and 11 assists. Kris Dunn and Brook Lopez scored 15 points each. Kobe Sanders scored 12 points, and Derrick Jones Jr. and Keaton Wagler scored 11 points each.

Williams stretchered off late

Williams was stretchered off with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter. He landed awkwardly on his left leg after driving to the hoop with 1:14 remaining, theScore reported. Clippers forward Derrick Jones Jr. was assessed a flagrant 1 foul on the play following a review.

The Oklahoman reported that Williams went up for a dunk at the 1:15 mark and was fouled by Derrick Jones Jr., fell awkwardly on his left leg and immediately required help from the medical staff. He gave two thumbs up while being stretchered off and received chants of J Dub from the Paycom Center crowd.

Sportsnet reported Williams had 8 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block in 31 minutes before the injury. NBC Sports said team doctors applied an air cast before Williams was taken off on a stretcher, and said he will miss an unknown amount of time but is likely looking at a lengthy absence.

Gilgeous-Alexander said after the game: "I just feel bad for him. ... We just got to hold the fort down until he comes back."

Williams is 25. He played in only 33 regular season games last season because of a right wrist injury and hamstring strains, and he entered Sunday averaging 16.5 points, 6 rebounds and 2.5 assists over the Thunder first two games.

Two more Thunder injuries

Oklahoma City also lost Cason Wallace in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury after he drew an offensive foul on Isaiah Jackson at the 6:22 mark. Thunder public relations said neither Wallace nor Jaylin Williams, who was out with right wrist soreness, would return.

The Thunder leave the night at 3-0 with three injury cases to track, led by Williams. The Clippers fall to 1-2.
