Key points

  • Tyler Reddick won the Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, holding off Ryan Blaney by 0.801 seconds after taking the lead with 18 laps to go.
  • Reddick, driving the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, led only 18 of the 312 laps.

Tyler Reddick won the Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, holding off Ryan Blaney by 0.801 seconds after taking the lead with 18 laps to go. It was Reddick's first win since April, and it put his Chase campaign back in reach with three races left.

Reddick, driving the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, led only 18 of the 312 laps. He was out front when it counted. Chase Elliott finished third, Christopher Bell took fourth, and Corey Heim rounded out the top five.

A late restart decides it

The race turned in the final 30 laps. Points leader Kyle Larson blew a right rear tire and hit the outside wall with 28 laps to go, bringing out a caution. Larson's No. 5 Chevrolet went to the garage and he finished 34th.

Bubba Wallace led the field into the pits, but he was caught speeding on pit lane and dropped to the rear. Reddick won the race off pit road on two tires. Chase Briscoe stayed out on older tires and led the restart, but Reddick drove past him with 18 laps left and held the lead to the flag.

Blaney closed in over the final laps but never got close enough to pass. Reddick crossed the line 0.801 seconds ahead. The race had six cautions and 21 lead changes.

A hard day for the points leaders

Larson kept the points lead despite his crash. He has 2,370 points, five ahead of Bell on 2,365. Briscoe is third on 2,346 after finishing eighth, and Denny Hamlin is fourth on 2,339.

Hamlin had his own trouble. He suffered a flat tire under green with less than 100 laps to go, lost a lap, and finished 28th. He dropped to fourth in the standings and could not take advantage of Larson's bad day.

Reddick sits seventh on 2,314 points, 56 behind Larson. Joey Logano finished sixth on the day and is sixth in the standings on 2,326. Daniel Suarez was seventh in the race.

What it means

This was the seventh of 10 Chase races and the 33rd of 36 races in the season. Less than 10 percent of the season is left, and the top of the standings is tight. Five points cover Larson and Bell, and the next three drivers are within 31 points of the lead.

Reddick won the first three races of the 2026 season but had not won since April. A win at Phoenix does not move him to the top of the table, but it ends the long wait and gives 23XI Racing a result to build on for the final three races.

Phoenix hosted the championship race from 2020 through 2025. It will not decide the title this year, but Sunday showed it can still shake up the Chase.
