Updated 07:47 UTC: India have named a replacement after all. The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Saturday, October 31, 2026 that the Men's Selection Committee has added right arm pacer Auqib Nabi to the squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand. Nabi, 29, was already in the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs, so he will now be available from the start of the five match series, which runs from November 4 to November 15, 2026. ESPNcricinfo reported that Nabi made his India debut against the West Indies in September and is currently in New Zealand with the India A squad, where he took six wickets in the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A. Reuters also reported the addition on Saturday, citing the cricket board. With Nabi added, the squad for the first three ODIs lists 16 players.
Prasidh Krishna will miss India's five match one day international series against New Zealand after the Board of Control for Cricket in India ruled him out on Friday, October 30, 2026. The BCCI said he is still recovering from a hamstring injury and had needed fitness clearance. ESPNcricinfo specified the injury as a left hamstring injury.
The board said Prasidh "will need additional time to build up the workload required to be ready for matches". India chose to protect the longer tour target, the two match Test series, rather than rush a fast bowler back before his workload was ready.
How the injury happened
Prasidh hurt his hamstring during the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, 2026. Cricbuzz reported that he sent down just five overs in that match before he went off the field. On October 28, 2026, Cricbuzz reported that his place in the one day squad was in serious doubt, and that head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill were keen to have him available for the Test series that follows the ODIs.
The route back runs through India A
Prasidh will join the India A squad for the third and final four day game against New Zealand A, subject to clearing the Return to Play assessment. The board set that game out as match practice before the Test series, which begins on November 19, 2026.
Mohammed Siraj will join the India A squad for the second four day game against New Zealand A, which starts on October 31, 2026. Cricbuzz said that match is at Hagley Oval in Christchurch and that Dhruv Jurel leads the India A squad. Nitish Kumar Reddy will stay with the ODI squad for the first ODI against New Zealand on November 4, 2026, and will then link up with India A for the third and final four day game, also for match practice ahead of the Tests.
What India lose in the ODIs
No replacement was named in the one day squad. Cricbuzz noted that the squad is already without Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested, so India will play the five ODI matches, from November 4 to November 15, 2026, with the fast bowling group already named. A fit Prasidh for two Tests from November 19 matters more than a half ready one.
For the first three ODIs, the squad is Shubman Gill as captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer as vice captain, KL Rahul as wicketkeeper, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan as wicketkeeper, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is listed only for the first ODI, and Auqib Nabi.
For the fourth and fifth ODIs, the squad is Shreyas Iyer as captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan as wicketkeeper and vice captain, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra as wicketkeeper, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav.
For Prasidh, the next step is the Return to Play assessment itself. Clear it, and his tour restarts with India A, with a Test place as the prize. Fall short, and India will have to plan the Test series without him as well.
