Peter Broome, the longtime Acushnet executive who was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame last month, died on Wednesday, Nov 4, 2026, after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was 66.

Golfweek reported his death, and the PGA Tour carried an editor note recording that he died on Nov 4, 2026. Broome spent nearly three decades with Titleist and FootJoy, and in retirement from that work he helped start a foundation that raised money for ALS research and wider access to clinical trials.

Broome often summed up his view of the game in a line Golfweek said he repeated often: there are "no strangers in golf, only friends who haven't met yet."

From Montreal clubs to Acushnet

Broome was born on April 19, 1960, and raised in Montreal, Canada. He was a junior member at Royal Montreal Golf Club and Mount Bruno Country Club. While attending McGill University, he worked as an assistant professional at Montreal area clubs.

He joined Acushnet in 1993. He worked from the company headquarters in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and retired in 2022 as senior vice president of Titleist brand management and industry relations. In that role he oversaw partnerships with the PGA of America, the PGA Tour and governing bodies, and he helped lead operations in Canada and Latin America.

Diagnosis, foundation and honours

Broome was diagnosed with ALS in August 2024. With family and friends, he helped establish the ALS Bridge Foundation. Golfweek and the PGA Tour reported that the foundation works to accelerate research funding and expand access to ALS clinical trials, and that it has made a $1 million gift to ALS research at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Sean M. Healey and AMG Center for ALS.

Honours came late in his life, and quickly. In 2025 he was named an honorary member of the PGA of America, becoming just the 13th person to receive the honour, in a group that includes three U.S. presidents and the entertainer Bob Hope. Last month he was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

Broome is survived by his wife, Sandy, and his children Valerie, Matthew and Brad. Golfweek reported that the family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the ALS Bridge Foundation in his honor.

His path ran from assistant professional work at Montreal area clubs while he studied at McGill University to the senior ranks at Acushnet, where his work covered the Titleist and FootJoy business for nearly thirty years before his retirement in 2022.
