Pakistan beat England by one wicket in Lahore on Sunday, October 25, in the ODI tri-series, and booked their place in the tri-series final. Shadab Khan made an unbeaten 113 and shared a record 89 run last wicket stand with Haris Rauf to take Pakistan home.

Pakistan chased 242 for victory. They finished on 243 for 9 in 47.1 overs, winning with 17 balls to spare, after they had been reduced to 154 for 9 in the 34th over. A chase that looked finished became a win from the last pair.

Shadab walks in at 103 for 6 and stays to the end

Shadab came to the crease in the 24th over with Pakistan at 103 for 6. He made 113 not out off 96 balls. It was his maiden ODI century and his career best ODI score, reported by Capital, citing Sky Sports coverage of the match.

The wickets kept falling around him. Pakistan lost three more and reached 154 for 9 in the 34th over, still needing 88 runs with only the last pair at the crease. Rauf joined Shadab and made an unbeaten 7 off 19 balls. His part was to stay there while Shadab scored, and the pair added 89 runs together.

That 89 run partnership was the highest for the final wicket in a successful ODI run chase, Reuters reported.

Shadab also survived a close call near the end. He was given out lbw to Gus Atkinson with 21 runs needed, but he reviewed the decision and replays showed an inside edge, so the decision was overturned.

England make 241, with Duckett on 105

England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs. Ben Duckett made 105, the highest score for England. Sam Curran made 42 in a fifth wicket partnership of 93 with Duckett, and Gus Atkinson finished unbeaten on 36.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led the Pakistan bowling with 4 for 46. He dismissed Tom Banton in the opening over and Joe Root in the third over. England slumped to 52 for 4 after Jordan Cox fell to Haris Rauf.

The rest of the Pakistan innings

The early Pakistan batting gave Shadab little support at first. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam made 10 apiece. Saad Baig made 32 off 22 balls, and Salman Ali Agha made 26. Those runs kept the chase moving before the middle order fell away and the score dropped from 103 for 6 to 154 for 9.

At the presentation, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi praised the last pair. "The way Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf finished the game with the bat, I have never seen in my life an innings like that," he said.

England captain Harry Brook defended his bowlers. "I don't think it went wrong with the ball, to be honest. I thought we did an exceptional job to restrict them to us nearly winning the game," he said.

The defeat was England's third successive loss in the tri-series. Pakistan go through to the final, which is on October 31 in Lahore. They go there on the strength of a last wicket stand that set a record for a successful chase, and an innings of 113 not out from a batter who walked in with his side at 103 for 6.
