The Green Bay Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 on Sunday Night Football at Lambeau Field on Sunday, October 18, building a 17-0 halftime lead and holding off a late Dallas score for their third straight win. Green Bay improved to 4-2. Dallas fell to 2-4 and lost for the second straight week.

Love and Golden set the tone

Jordan Love completed 23 of 41 passes for 276 yards. He threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Golden in the first quarter and ran in a 1-yard score with 22 seconds left in the first half. Golden finished with six catches for 104 yards and the touchdown. Christian Watson added three catches for 64 yards.

Green Bay's run game never got going. The Packers managed just 58 rushing yards, and their receivers dropped passes that cost them points, including chances in the end zone. Love still kept drives moving with deep throws to Golden and Watson, and the Packers controlled the ball and the clock for long stretches.

Two interceptions turn into points

Dallas had its best early chance in the second quarter. Dak Prescott drove the Cowboys to the Green Bay 19, but Evan Williams intercepted his pass for CeeDee Lamb at the 3-yard line. The Packers turned that stop into a short Trey Smack field goal and a 10-0 lead.

Brandon Cisse picked off Prescott later in the half after Lamb fell down on a slant route. Both interceptions led to Green Bay points in the first half, NBC Sports reported. Prescott threw 54 times and finished with 34 completions for 258 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was hit seven times and sacked once. Lamb caught nine passes for 70 yards and George Pickens had six catches for 73 yards, but Dallas did not score until the third quarter.

Dallas rallies too late

Javonte Williams scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, his eighth touchdown of the season, to cut the lead to 17-7. Smack answered with field goals of 44 yards in the third quarter and 29 yards with 10 minutes and 6 seconds left, after a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter. That put Green Bay ahead 23-7.

Dallas still had one push left. The Cowboys reached the Green Bay 14 late in the fourth quarter, but the drive ended on downs when Prescott's fourth down throw into the end zone found no receiver. Prescott then hit Ryan Flournoy with a 6-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds left. The two point try failed, and the game ended 23-13.

What is next

Green Bay goes to Detroit next week for a divisional game against the Lions. Running back Josh Jacobs is due to come off the commissioner exempt list on Monday and could play in that game, ESPN reported. Dallas stays on the road and faces the Eagles, who are also 2-4, on Monday night. The two teams met on Sunday night last season as well, and that game ended in a 40-40 tie.
