No. 1 Miami defeated Pittsburgh 52-23 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Miami led 31-7 at halftime, improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the ACC, and stayed unbeaten with a win built on a record day from its best receiver.

A record day for Toney

Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney set a University of Miami record with 16 receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns. The record he broke was his own. Toney had set the previous mark of 13 catches against Pittsburgh last year, and he passed it against the same opponent, in front of the home crowd this time.

Toney was the center of the Miami offense from the start. Pittsburgh had no answer for him across the middle or on the outside, and Miami kept going back to him because the coverage never caught up. Sixteen catches on a single Saturday is the most any Miami receiver has recorded in one game, and the 194 yards and three scores made it a complete performance rather than a volume record built on short throws.

Mensah stays in rhythm

Quarterback Darian Mensah completed 31 of 37 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns. It was his fourth game this season with at least 300 yards and three touchdowns, and his accuracy kept Miami ahead of the chains all afternoon. Miami scored 10 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second, 14 in the third and 7 in the fourth.

The Hurricanes totaled 482 yards of offense and averaged 7.2 yards per play. The running game finished the drives the passing game started. Freshman running back Javian Mallory led Miami rushing with 47 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, and senior Mark Fletcher Jr. added a touchdown run.

Miami's defense set the terms early. The Hurricanes forced four consecutive three-and-outs to open the game, and Pittsburgh did not build any sustained drive until the result was already leaning one way. By halftime the score was 31-7, and the second half was about managing the margin.

Pittsburgh could not keep up

Pittsburgh quarterback Holden Geriner, in his second start for the injured Mason Heintschel, completed 18 of 32 passes for 268 yards and one touchdown. Geriner lost a fumble late in the second quarter, and the turnover added to a first half in which Pittsburgh scored once and spent long stretches going backwards. Pittsburgh scored 7 points in the second quarter, 7 in the third and 9 in the fourth, and fell to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the ACC.

The day also carried a piece of program history in the stands. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes team was in attendance at Hard Rock Stadium to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its national championship, and the current No. 1 team gave that group a comfortable win to watch.

Miami plays at North Carolina next week. Pittsburgh leaves Miami Gardens with its third loss and a passing game that produced yards late but never threatened the outcome after halftime.
