Lazio won 6-2 away at Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Serie A matchday 9. The win kept Lazio unbeaten this season, with eight wins and one draw from nine matches, and moved them to 25 points. Lazio are now three points clear of Inter Milan at the top of the table, and Inter visit bottom club Venezia on Wednesday.
Four goals before the break
Lazio scored in the second minute through Kenneth Taylor. Kristian Thorstvedt equalised for Sassuolo in the seventh minute, but the home side stayed level for only six minutes. Gustav Isaksen put Lazio back in front in the 13th minute, and Romano Floriani added another goal soon after. Sebastiano Esposito scored for Sassuolo in the 43rd minute, and Mattia Zaccagni replied in first half stoppage time to send Lazio into the break 4-2 ahead. The goal from Floriani was the first of his Serie A career. "I'm really happy to have scored that first goal, but even more so about this win, which is crucial for us," Floriani said after the match.
Red card and two saved penalties
Thorstvedt's night turned soon after his goal. He was sent off just after the half hour for a foul on Zaccagni, and Sassuolo played the rest of the match with 10 men. Lazio still had work to do in the second half. Sassuolo goalkeeper Stefano Turati saved two Lazio penalties after the break, first from Zaccagni and then from Davide Frattesi, and for a spell the home side stayed within two goals. Tijjani Noslin settled the match with two second half goals, and Lazio finished with six.
A start not seen since 1999-2000
The result means Lazio have gone unbeaten through their first nine league matches for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, when the club last won the Scudetto, according to Complete Sports. Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso still refused to talk up the table after the match. "We mustn't look at the standings, otherwise we'll get a headache and start thinking we're very good," Gattuso said. His team sit top with 25 points from nine matches, three points clear of Inter, who play at Venezia on Wednesday.
