The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Utah Jazz 110-105 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Monday night. Cedric Coward led Memphis with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and the Grizzlies stayed perfect at 4-0 while Utah fell to 1-3.

Memphis set the terms early. The Grizzlies won the first quarter 30-21, and even after Utah took the second quarter 31-28, Memphis went into halftime ahead 58-52. The third quarter widened the gap. Memphis won it 31-24 and led 89-76 with one quarter left. Utah won the fourth quarter 29-21 and cut the margin to five points by the final buzzer, but the comeback stopped there and Memphis closed out its fourth straight win to open the season.

Coward leads a balanced Memphis scoring list

Coward scored his 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and made all four of his shots from three point range. He added 11 rebounds and 3 assists, the strongest all-round line on the Memphis side of the box score.

Ty Jerome finished with 15 points and 8 assists, and his scoring came late. Jerome had no field goal in the first half and did not reach double figures until the final three minutes of the game. He then scored clutch baskets down the stretch, at the point where Utah was cutting into the lead and Memphis needed points to hold its ground.

Jaylen Wells added 14 points for Memphis. Cameron Boozer scored 13 points and took 7 rebounds, which gave the Grizzlies four players in double figures on a night when no Memphis player scored more than 16.

George leads Utah, and injuries thin the Jazz bench

Keyonte George led all scorers with 26 points for Utah. George shot 9-of-17 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line, and he added 6 assists and 3 rebounds. Airious Bailey scored 17 points and took 10 rebounds for the Jazz. Mo Bamba added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Utah also lost two players during the game. The Jazz lost Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. to injuries, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal live report from Delta Center. Jackson was ruled out for the game, and Markkanen was listed as questionable to return.

A 4-0 start, and the schedule turns quickly

Memphis is 4-0 for just the second time in franchise history. The win was also the first game of a back to back set for the Grizzlies, so the perfect start goes straight back on the road.
