Ford Recalls 102,159 F-Series Trucks Over Speedometers That Can Show the Wrong Speed

Ford is recalling 102,159 F-Series trucks in the United States because the analog speedometer and tachometer can stick or move erratically, the NHTSA said on Tuesday. The recall covers certain 2025 and 2026 Super Duty trucks and 2026 F-150 and F-750 models, and dealers will replace the instrument cluster modules free of charge.

Ford is recalling 102,159 F-Series trucks in the United States because the speedometer and tachometer in the instrument cluster can stick or move erratically and give the driver the wrong readings, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday.

The recall covers certain 2025 and 2026 F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, F-550 Super Duty and F-600 trucks, and certain 2026 F-150 and F-750 Super Duty trucks. Reuters reported the recall on Tuesday, October 20, citing the safety agency.

What can go wrong

The fault sits in the analog instrument cluster. The tachometer, which shows engine speed, and the speedometer may become stuck or move erratically, providing inaccurate readings to the driver, the agency said. The trucks fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, which covers controls and displays.

The risk is plain. A speedometer that fails to display accurate vehicle speed can increase the risk of a crash, the NHTSA record says. Transport Canada, which lists the same Ford recall for Canadian trucks, puts it the same way: a speedometer that does not display the correct vehicle speed could lead a driver to drive too fast without knowing.

The fix, the letters and the dates

Dealers will replace the instrument cluster modules free of charge. Vehicle identification numbers for the recalled trucks became searchable on the NHTSA website on October 7, 2026, so owners do not have to wait for a letter to find out whether their truck is included.

Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on October 26, 2026. Additional letters will go out once the remedy is available, which is anticipated in December 2026. Ford's number for this recall is 26C46, and the NHTSA campaign number is 26V653000. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

What owners should do

Owners of a 2025 or 2026 Super Duty truck, or a 2026 F-150 or F-750 Super Duty, can enter their vehicle identification number on the NHTSA website to check whether their truck is in the recall. If the speedometer or tachometer needle sticks, jumps or reads oddly before the repair, the truck should go to a dealer and the driver should not rely on the gauge to judge speed.

The F-Series is Ford's heavy work truck line, and the Super Duty models are widely used for towing, construction and fleet work, where an untrue speed reading is a safety problem for the driver and for everyone else on the road.
