How Fleetwood and Arsenal got here
Fleetwood reached the fourth round by beating Sheffield United 1-0 at home in the third round in September. Arsenal won 4-2 at Ipswich Town in the third round. A win tonight puts Fleetwood in the quarter finals of the competition, a stage the club has to earn against a Premier League side at home, in front of a full small ground on the Lancashire coast.
Ties that are level after 90 minutes go straight to penalties in this round, with no replay and no extra time. The quarter finals are set for the week of December 14, and the final is on March 21, 2027 at Wembley Stadium.
The rest of the round
Five ties follow on Wednesday, October 28. Manchester City host Brighton and Hove Albion at 7:30 p.m. GMT. Bournemouth host Aston Villa, Fulham host Crystal Palace and Sunderland host Brentford at 7:45 p.m. GMT. Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield at 8 p.m. GMT, on Sky Sports Football and ITV1. The round closes on Thursday, October 29, when Everton host Newcastle United at 7:45 p.m. GMT.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola said his team would make changes for the Chelsea tie but wanted to win it. In comments reported by talkSPORT, Iraola said every competition is important and that there will definitely be changes, while the team wants to be competitive and stay in the draw.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both went out in the third round, United losing to Brighton and Spurs losing at Liverpool, which is why the draw has no meeting of those two clubs at this stage. The eight winners this week go into the quarter final draw, with ball numbers to be published on Wednesday morning, according to the EFL schedule reporting.
