Coinbase put its crypto price prediction markets in front of its full audience on Sunday, posting that the contracts are live in real time for Bitcoin, Ether and Solana, with betting windows as short as 15 minutes.
"Crypto price prediction markets are now live on Coinbase in real time," the company wrote on X on October 25, in a post reported by TradingView News and BBX. Users pick whether the price of Bitcoin, Ether or Solana will be up or down over a set window. The windows run from 15 minutes to one day.
What the product actually is
These are event contracts, not coin purchases. A customer takes a position on a defined question about a price at a set time. A correct call pays one dollar. A wrong call pays zero. There is no partial credit for being close, according to the product's published terms as reported by The Cryptonomist.
The contract price itself is the market's implied odds. A contract priced at 65 cents implies a 65 percent chance of that outcome, Coinbase's own guide explains, as cited by CoinScreamer. That is a market view, not a forecast a customer can rely on.
The markets are operated and resolved by Kalshi and offered through Coinbase Financial Markets, a CFTC-regulated entity. Access is limited to eligible United States residents, and Nevada and Michigan are excluded, CoinScreamer reported.
The honest timeline
Sunday's post was a promotion, not the first launch. The short-duration crypto price markets went live on October 6, covering Bitcoin, Ether and Solana among other assets, Crypto Briefing reported at the time. What changed on October 25 is the push: Coinbase chose to advertise the shortest windows, 15 minutes to a day, to its whole user base.
That push matters for a simple reason. A 15-minute up-or-down contract sits inside the same app where customers hold their coins, one tap from a spot balance. Funding can come from a dollar balance or from USDC. The product turns price watching, which most crypto users already do for free, into a paid habit with a clock on it.
Regulators have fought over prediction markets for years, and the short crypto windows are the newest test of where event contracts end and gambling begins. For now the contracts are live, the exclusions are named, and the pitch is speed.
