Yamal Strikes First as Barcelona Beat Betis 5-2 to Make It Nine Wins From Nine

Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-2 at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville on Saturday, October 17, 2026, to make it nine wins from nine at the start of the La Liga season. Lamine Yamal, Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo scored for Barcelona. Valentin Gomez and Abde Ezzalzouli scored for Betis, who played most of the second half with 10 men.

Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute, set up by Jules Kounde, curling a shot into the top corner from outside the area. Betis did not fold. Gomez levelled in the 27th minute, and for a while the home crowd could believe.

Rodri put Barcelona back in front in the 41st minute, converting a corner from Fermin Lopez, and the visitors led 2-1 at half time.

A wild start to the second half

Gabriel Jesus made it 3-1 in the 51st minute, finishing a pass from Yamal. Abde pulled one back for Betis two minutes later, and at 3-2 the game was open again.

It closed again almost at once. Facundo Bernal was sent off for headbutting Yamal, and Betis had to play the rest of the game a man down. Garcia made it 4-2 in the 62nd minute, and substitute Olmo added the fifth goal in the 81st minute.

The numbers behind the win are heavy. It was the sixth time this season that Barcelona have scored five or more goals in a game, and the win stretched their winning run in all competitions to 11 games. Rodri's goal was his first for the club.

What it means

Barcelona have 27 points from nine games and have scored 39 league goals. They sit five points clear of Atletico Madrid, who won 1-0 at Espanyol earlier on Saturday through an 89th minute goal from Alex Baena. Betis stay third on 19 points, and the defeat ends their run of seven games unbeaten. Real Madrid are fourth on 18 points and host Sevilla on Sunday.

Betis were one goal behind and still in the game when Bernal was sent off, and the match ran away from them after that. For Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, the results keep coming. His team has won every league game it has played, and it did so here on the ground of the team sitting third.
