One lot of ashwagandha capsules sold under the 365 by Whole Foods Market brand is being recalled across the United States because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella, according to a company announcement published by the US Food and Drug Administration on October 30. Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is recalling its 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules in the 120 count size. The company said no illnesses have been reported to date.
What is being recalled
The recall covers a single lot, number 2025-26227. The lot number is printed on the bottom of the bottle, along with an expiration date of October 13, 2028. The capsules are packaged in white plastic bottles labeled 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha, with UPC 9948252099. Vitality Works said the potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit, and it limited the recall to that one lot.
Where the capsules were sold
The recalled capsules were available for purchase from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026, at Whole Foods Market stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia, and online through Amazon.com. The states are Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming. Because the same lot was also sold online, shoppers outside those states who bought the capsules on Amazon should check their bottles as well.
What shoppers should do
Customers who have capsules from the recalled lot should not consume them. WFTS in Tampa and WTMJ in Milwaukee, both reporting the FDA notice, said customers are urged to discard the product and that refunds are available at any Whole Foods Market store. Consumers with questions may contact Vitality Works Inc. at 505-268-9950, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain time.
Why Salmonella matters
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA notice. That risk is the reason a recall with no reported illnesses still calls for the product to be thrown out rather than used. The announcement applies only to lot 2025-26227 with the October 13, 2028 expiration date. Bottles carrying a different lot number are not part of this recall. Anyone who cannot read the printing on the bottom of a bottle can ask a Whole Foods store or call the company before using the capsules.
