A Toronto chief executive and his two adult daughters were shot and his wife was struck with a hammer when three masked men forced their way into the family home in the Bridle Path neighbourhood before dawn on Thursday, October 29. Police are hunting the three men and say they are armed and dangerous.

The attack happened at about 3:40 a.m. on October 29 at a home on Hyde Park Circle. Three masked men forced entry through a rear door of the house. Two of them carried handguns and the third carried a hammer. The men went to the second floor of the home and made a demand for valuables.

The family

The victims were David Morton, 75, chief executive of the MAC Group, his wife Doriana Zohil-Morton, 64, and their adult daughters Maggie Zohil-Morton and Cristina Zohil-Morton. Toronto Police listed the ages of the four victims as 75, 64, 28 and 26. Police did not name the victims themselves. The family members were named in reporting by the New York Post and The Sun.

Morton and both of his daughters were shot as they tried to fight off the intruders. Doriana Zohil-Morton was struck with a hammer. In a statement on Friday, October 30, Morton said all four family members were also attacked with the hammer.

"It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home," Morton said in the statement, as reported by the New York Post and The Sun Ireland.

Injuries and the search

Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith said two of the victims suffered life-altering injuries and were still in hospital, while the other two had non-life-threatening wounds.

The suspects fled in an SUV. Police believe the men are in their 20s and wore dark clothing and masks. On Friday, police gave partial descriptions of the suspects for the first time, said the men are considered armed and dangerous, and said the Hold-Up Squad is investigating. Smith said it is uncertain whether anything was taken from the home. Police have not said whether the home was targeted.

The city responds

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said she was deeply troubled by the attack, said violence is not acceptable in the city, and urged anyone with information or footage to come forward. Police Chief Myron Demkiw said residents of the Bridle Path should expect increased patrols in the coming days.

A summary of Toronto Police figures put home invasions in the city at 119 so far in 2026, up about one third over the same time last year. The search for the three men is continuing, and the Hold-Up Squad investigation is still under way.
