No. 19 Texas beat No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday night, October 24, 2026, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. The Longhorns led 24-3 in the second quarter, then watched Ole Miss tie the game at 24-24 early in the fourth quarter. Texas answered with a touchdown drive built only on running plays, added a late field goal, and held on for a win it badly needed after two straight losses.
Texas started fast. Gianni Spetic kicked a 23-yard field goal on the first drive, and after Lucas Carneiro tied the game at 3-3 for Ole Miss, Arch Manning finished a 60-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Manning scrambled 19 yards on third and 17 early in the second quarter, then threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo. Michael Terry III ran 2 yards for another touchdown, and Texas led 24-3. The defense protected the lead before halftime when Rasheem Biles intercepted Trinidad Chambliss on fourth down from the Texas 3-yard line.
Ole Miss scores 21 straight points
The game turned in the third quarter. Manning was hit from his blind side and fumbled, and Ole Miss defensive end Kam Franklin landed on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Chambliss then threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Horatio Fields, and early in the fourth quarter he found Fields again for 27 yards and the tying touchdown at 24-24. Manning also threw an interception in the fourth quarter, but the Texas defense forced a punt and gave the offense one more chance.
Texas runs its way back in front
Texas took that chance on the ground. The Longhorns ran the ball on every play of an 80-yard drive, and Manning scored on a 1-yard bootleg run with 7:59 left for a 31-24 lead. The defense then blocked a 58-yard field goal try by Carneiro. Raleek Brown, who ran for 157 yards on 23 carries, helped set up a 33-yard Spetic field goal that made it 34-24 with 2:25 left. Carneiro kicked a field goal with 1:20 remaining to cut the lead to 34-27, and Texas closed out the final seconds.
Manning completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards, with one touchdown pass, two interceptions and two rushing touchdowns. Chambliss completed 25 of 52 passes for 250 yards, with two touchdowns and three interceptions. The loss was the second of the season for Ole Miss, whose only earlier loss came at Florida. Texas had been ranked No. 1 three weeks earlier, then lost to Oklahoma and Florida in games where it gave up second half leads in both. This time the Longhorns gave up the lead on the scoreboard only by a tie, and they finished the game.
The win came at a cost for both teams. Texas lost offensive tackle Trevor Goosby to a knee injury and wide receiver Cam Coleman to a shoulder injury during the game. Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy left the game in the second half with an injury and was taken off on a cart, after the Texas defense had held him to 36 yards on 16 carries.
