Two Monday night games in Europe ended with the home team on top of its league. In Istanbul, Victor Osimhen scored twice in the first half and Galatasaray held on to beat Fenerbahce 2-1 in the derby at RAMS Park. In Paris, Paris Saint-Germain needed two substitutes to break down Lyon, and goals from Senny Mayulu in the 72nd minute and Mika Godts in the 84th minute gave them a 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes.

PSG leave it late in Paris

Lyon arrived in fourth place knowing a win would take them top of Ligue 1 instead. For more than an hour they held PSG level, and their goalkeeper Dominik Greif kept out a series of home chances. At the other end, PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was busy in the first half and made a strong save to deny Julien Duranville, while Zachary Athekame also tested him, Reuters and theScore reported.

The game changed from the bench. Mika Godts came on just before the hour and set up the opener, feeding Senny Mayulu on the edge of the box in the 72nd minute. Mayulu took a touch and drove a low shot into the corner. It was his first goal since April, Reuters reported. Godts then scored his first goal for the club in the 84th minute, running onto a long pass from Quentin Ndjantou and firing home from the edge of the box. Godts joined PSG from Ajax this season.

The win takes PSG to 17 points from eight games, one point ahead of second placed Rennes. Lyon stay fifth on 14 points. PSG have now won eight games in a row in all competitions and five in a row in Ligue 1. The match was played on the same evening as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, where PSG had a record 10 players nominated for awards, Reuters reported. Before kickoff, PSG fans paid tribute to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is having surgery in Qatar on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

Osimhen decides the Istanbul derby

Galatasaray settled their derby before halftime. Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing from inside the box after a pass from Baris Alper Yilmaz. He scored again in the 44th minute, heading in after an effort from Davinson Sanchez, and Galatasaray led 2-0 at the break.

Fenerbahce answered in the 62nd minute. Irfan Can Kahveci scored from a pass by Oguz Aydin, with an acrobatic finish that cut the lead to 2-1 and set up a tense last half hour. Osimhen came off in the 88th minute, replaced by Wilfried Singo, and Galatasaray protected the lead to the final whistle.

What the results mean

Galatasaray lead the Super Lig with 22 points from nine games. Fenerbahce stay fifth on 16 points after a third league defeat. In France, Rennes had led the table for 24 hours after a 3-0 home win over Strasbourg on Sunday, and Lille and Monaco sit two points behind PSG after drawing 1-1 with each other, theScore reported. Both Monday winners now hold first place in their leagues, and both did it in the games their supporters care about most at home.
