Pentagon Releases Seventh Batch of UFO Files With Reports of Black Triangles Over Secret Bases
The Department of War posted the seventh PURSUE tranche on Oct. 23. The files include FBI reports of fast, silent black triangles over secret test sites, Catalina Island sightings from 1947 and 1952, and Skinwalker Ranch records from Utah, and none of it offers proof of alien life.

WASHINGTON. The Department of War released a seventh batch of declassified files on unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, on Friday, posting the records on its PURSUE portal. The department said the first tranche came out on May 8, 2026, and that new material will keep appearing on a rolling basis as agencies find and declassify it. The system follows President Donald Trump's direction on Feb. 19, 2026, that agencies identify and release government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, UAP and unidentified flying objects.
Black triangles over secret sites
Among the most striking records are reports of black, triangle shaped objects seen over secret United States military bases on at least three occasions in the past year, according to the New York Post, whose reporters were briefed by senior government officials on Thursday ahead of the release. An FBI report in the files describes objects covering 1.5 miles in three seconds, a rate observers put at 1,800 miles per hour, with no sound, no exhaust and no vapor trails. A Department of War memo on another sighting described a continuous, seamless surface with no visible openings for propulsion, no air intakes, no control surfaces and no cockpit. The two main witnesses reported no effects such as disorientation, nausea, headaches or memory gaps. Dates and exact locations were redacted for security reasons. Officials ruled out the objects being American technology, the Post reported, and doubted they belonged to another country because no known country has those capabilities.
Catalina Island and Skinwalker Ranch
Other files reach back decades. An Air Force intelligence report describes three Boy Scouts hiking near Camp Fox on Catalina Island, California, at noon on Aug. 25, 1952, who reported a silver colored object moving faster than a conventional jet in clear weather. A sketch drawn on the back of the report could not be found in the archives. A handwritten letter dated May 1, 1947, describes six objects seen one at a time on the night of April 28, 1947, followed minutes later by four more moving in the same direction. Officials closed that report as having insufficient data for evaluation.
The tranche also includes files on Skinwalker Ranch, a 512 acre property in Utah long associated with unexplained sightings. The records say the government collected hair samples from a barbed wire fence at the ranch in 2010, after a rancher reported a figure that his dogs chased through the fence, and that officials had interviewed at least 25 people in the area by May 2010. The files also include a NASA document from the 1960s offering guidance on what to do after contact with space fragments.
What the release does and does not show
The department says the archived cases are unresolved, meaning the government could not make a definitive determination about what was observed, often because the data were not sufficient. It says it welcomes private sector analysis and will keep reporting separately on resolved cases, as the law requires. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the files had long been hidden behind classifications and that it was time the American people saw them for themselves. None of the files released so far, including this tranche, offers definitive proof of alien life. Officials told reporters that more tranches are expected to follow.
