The run that decided it
Kansas City still led 44-38 after a three-point play by Carl Daugherty Jr. with 17:52 to play. Creighton answered with 17 straight points. During that run the Roos went 14 straight possessions without scoring, a stretch of 8 minutes and 3 seconds, and Creighton forced seven turnovers while Trevon Carter-Givens blocked three of the last five missed shots. Wes Enis scored eight points in the run and Austin Swartz added five, and Creighton led 55-44 when it ended.
Enis, a transfer from South Florida, finished with a game high 25 points, 17 of them in the second half. He made five three-pointers and 6 of 8 free throws. BJ Davis added 13 points, and Creighton newcomers scored 56 of the team's 76 points. A debut win for a former Bluejay
Huss is a Kansas City native who played at Creighton from 1997 to 2001. He became the first Creighton graduate to win as the program's head coach since Tom Apke, who went 130-64 from 1974 to 1981, and Creighton head coaches are now 14-3 in their debuts. Huss worked seven years as a Creighton assistant, from 2017 to 2023 and again in 2025-26, before taking over for Greg McDermott, who retired after 16 seasons and watched the first half from a courtside seat.
Jaylen Smith led Kansas City with 15 points and five assists, all of his scoring in the first half. The Roos shot 55.2 percent in the first half and 48.1 percent for the game, but Enis helped hold Smith scoreless after the break. It was also a coaching debut on the visiting bench: Mark Turgeon coached his first game for Kansas City after a decade at Maryland. Creighton shot 40.7 percent from the field, won the rebounding battle 34-32 and made 19 of 23 free throws.
Creighton is back at CHI Health Center on Thursday, Nov. 5, when it hosts Le Moyne. The Dolphins lost their opener 106-64 at Nebraska on Monday.
