What shoppers should do

Stop eating the chips and throw them away, the company says. Do not return them to the store, and refunds are not being offered.

The notice does not report confirmed illnesses. High exposure to thallium can cause stomach and intestinal illness, nerve damage and hair loss, according to the notice. Anyone who thinks they were affected should contact a health care provider.

Questions go to Alexa Olvera at the company, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time, through the contact listed in the FDA notice.

How the metal was found

The recall follows a California investigation that started months earlier. In May 2026, the California Department of Public Health looked into a report of a person with elevated thallium levels and collected samples from stores in the Sacramento area. Lab tests found elevated thallium in several Brad's varieties, and the department warned consumers on May 19, 2026, not to eat the products. At that time the manufacturer had not recalled them, the department said.

The recall began after the FDA told the company about the test results. The company says its manufacturing did not add the दूषित पदार्थ. Kale takes up elements from the soil as it grows, and drying the leaves concentrates what is in them, the company says.

Thallium is a metal found naturally in some soils. In large amounts it is poisonous, which is why a snack sold as a health food drew a state warning in May and a national recall in November.
