GTA 6 Preload Starts November 10 With a File of Up to 212 GB, Rockstar Confirms
Rockstar Games has confirmed the preload schedule, release times and install size for Grand Theft Auto VI. PlayStation 5 preloads open at midnight local time on November 10, the game unlocks on November 19, and players need up to 212 GB of free space.
Key points
- Rockstar Games has confirmed when Grand Theft Auto VI players can preload the game, how large the download is, and when it unlocks.
- The file is large by any standard.
- Downloading the game early does not let anyone play it early.
Rockstar Games has confirmed when Grand Theft Auto VI players can preload the game, how large the download is, and when it unlocks. Digital preloading on PlayStation 5 begins at midnight local time on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, according to IGN, citing Rockstar. On Xbox Series X and S, preloading begins on Tuesday, November 10 at 12 a.m. GMT, which is 7 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. PT on Monday, November 9.
The file is large by any standard. The preload weighs in at up to 212 GB depending on the device, IGN and Parade both reported, citing Rockstar. Rockstar told players to plan their storage ahead of time. "So make sure you've got ample space to begin pre-loading as soon as possible," Rockstar said, in comments reported by IGN.
Preload is not early access
Downloading the game early does not let anyone play it early. Preloading does not give early access, and the game stays locked until November 19, Parade reported. Grand Theft Auto VI launches globally on November 19, 2026, at local midnight, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. No PC release has been announced.
The November 10 date also moves the schedule up. GamingBible reported that the preload date is two days earlier than the November 12 date previously reported for preloading, a small change that gives players on slower connections more time to finish a download of this size before launch day.
Physical buyers get a code in a box
Players who prefer a physical copy will not get a disc. Code-in-box physical versions will be available from retailers beginning November 12, Parade reported. The box contains a download code, not a disc, and codes can be redeemed before launch to preload, so physical buyers can be ready on the same terms as digital buyers.
Rockstar is adding two extras for launch day. On November 19, the company will add an official printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida as a free digital download on its official site, IGN reported. A double-sided physical version will be sold through the Rockstar Store for 0.99 dollars, or free with any purchase.
What players should do now
The practical step is storage. A file of up to 212 GB will not fit on a console that is already close to full, and deleting games on launch morning is the delay the preload window is meant to avoid. Players who have preordered can check their free space this week, clear what they no longer play, and start the download when their platform opens on November 10 or the evening of November 9 in North America on Xbox.
