Updated Oct 31, 2026: One person has died after the Henderson water rescues reported below. The Henderson Fire Department responded to three swift water rescues at about 1 p.m. on Friday, October 30, and rescued four people in all, KLAS reported. At the wash near Lake Mead Parkway and Pueblo Boulevard, a person pulled from the water went into cardiac arrest after the rescue, and crews gave immediate care, a City of Henderson spokesperson told KTNV. The person was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead there. The city did not name the person. East of the Lake Las Vegas entrance, crews removed two people from a vehicle that floodwater had swept off the roadway, and no one was injured. On North Milan Street near Drake Street, a vehicle was disabled while crossing floodwater, the occupant climbed onto the top of the vehicle, and responders rescued that person, also with no injuries reported. Flooding and debris closed Lake Mead Parkway east of Lake Las Vegas Parkway as of 3:30 p.m. Friday, KTNV reported. The original report below, published before the death was reported, said no deaths had been reported in the first local accounts.
Fast moving thunderstorms swept across the Las Vegas valley on Friday afternoon, October 30, dropping hail and torrential rain that flooded streets in the east valley, sent crews to water rescues in Henderson and briefly halted flights at Harry Reid International Airport. The National Weather Service office in Las Vegas kept much of the valley under flash flood warnings into the late afternoon and called the situation dangerous and potentially life threatening.
Warnings covered the Strip, downtown and Henderson
One flash flood warning covered southwestern Clark County, including Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Fremont Street, the Strip, Paradise, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and was set to run until 4 p.m. A warning on the Henderson side ran until 3:45 p.m., and forecasters issued a further flash flood warning at 2:53 p.m. that runs until 5:45 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning for the east side of the valley ran until 1:45 p.m. after public reports of hail and torrential rainfall, and another severe thunderstorm warning followed in the mid afternoon.
The weather service said up to 1 inch of rain had already fallen in parts of the valley. In the southeast valley, thunderstorms dropped 0.50 inches of rain in 30 minutes, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and a weather service spokesperson told the newspaper Henderson had recorded 0.75 inches of rain by Friday afternoon. A flood advisory for eastern Henderson and the Lake Las Vegas area ran until 3:15 p.m., and the weather service urged people there to watch for water moving through washes and for flooded low water crossings.
Flooded streets, rescues and thousands without power
Heavy flooding was reported on Eastern Avenue north and south of U.S. 95. Local television reporting said water rescues were under way along Lake Mead Parkway in Henderson. No deaths or serious injuries had been reported in the first local accounts of the storm.
The rain also knocked out power across the central valley. NV Energy's outage map showed at least 1,620 customers without power around Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road at about 1:30 p.m., and the total topped 4,000 customers a few minutes later, at about 1:40 p.m., mostly in the central valley.
At Harry Reid International Airport, lightning led to a ground stop. Federal Aviation Administration data showed the stop in place until 2 p.m., with departures running about 15 minutes late and arrivals about 23 minutes late on average, and staffing issues also playing a part in the delays.
More rain is possible on Halloween
The wet pattern is not finished. FOX5 forecasters expect a high near 71 degrees on Halloween Saturday, with possible showers in the evening while trick-or-treaters are out and rain chances climbing overnight into early Sunday. The weather service told the Review-Journal that Southern Nevada could see its first measurable rain on Halloween since 1987. Drivers are urged never to cross flooded roads, and residents should stay out of flooded washes and low water crossings until the water drops.
