Jack Wolff, the nine-year-old son of Mercedes Formula One team principal Toto Wolff, walked away from a frightening karting crash in Italy on Friday after another kart flew over the top of his.

Wolff was racing in the X30 Mini class at the IAME Warriors Final at the Leopard Circuit in Viterbo. On the final lap he was fighting for the win with Moroccan racer Elgahoudi Nagy when the two made contact and Wolff spun across the track, according to PlanetF1.

British racer Dimitar Uzunov was following close behind and had no room to avoid him. Uzunov's kart was launched over the top of Wolff's kart, striking him on the shoulder and helmet and dragging him sideways before he came to a stop at the side of the track, PlanetF1 and talkSPORT reported.

Red flags, then Wolff on his feet

The race was stopped with red flags. Commentators on the event coverage said Wolff was on his feet and talking to race officials, and PlanetF1 reported that officials first attended to him with a brace backboard before he got out of the kart on his own and walked away.

He was taken for minor medical treatment in the immediate aftermath. F1 journalist Thomas Maher, who posted video of the crash on X, reported that Wolff was fine after some minor treatment and was adamant that he would be racing again on Saturday.

A first title last month

The crash came one month after Wolff won his first championship at the same circuit. Racing for KR Motorsport, he took the X30 U10 title in the IAME Series Italy last month, winning the final round at Viterbo after leading the championship into the last race, PlanetF1 reported. The Viterbo weekend drew a field of 361 participants across its classes.

Wolff is the son of Toto Wolff, who has run the Mercedes Formula One team since 2013, and Susie Wolff, the managing director of F1 Academy. PlanetF1 reported that his title win last month brought his first on-record interview as a racing driver, in which he said he had not expected to win nearly every round and was surprised to be at the front.

No update had been issued late on Friday suggesting any injury beyond the minor treatment reported at the track. His stated plan, passed on by Maher, was to be back in the kart on Saturday.
