Two teenagers are in custody in Irving after a confrontation over a gun reportedly stolen from a home ended in the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old man, according to an arrest warrant and police information reported by FOX 4 on Monday, Oct. 26.

Andez Manning was shot in the head during the confrontation and died on Saturday, Oct. 24, after he was placed on life support, FOX 4 reported. Irving police arrested Zayne Ryder Townsend, 17, and a juvenile, both identified by Manning's stepson, according to the arrest warrant. The juvenile has not been named because of age.

Two confrontations on Thursday

Last Thursday, Oct. 22, Manning and his stepson went to the Devon on Northgate apartment complex to confront two teenagers, friends of the stepson, about a gun taken from the stepson's home, the warrant says. Later, a second confrontation happened nearby, just off Esters Road.

That is when the two teens allegedly began shooting at Manning and his stepson while they were in their vehicle. Manning returned fire but was shot in the head. His stepson drove him to a nearby Family Dollar store to call for help.

Townsend was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon because Manning was still on life support at the time. Manning died Saturday, and as of Monday it was unclear when the charges would be upgraded, FOX 4 reported. The charges are allegations, and Townsend declined to speak to detectives, according to the warrant. The juvenile's charges were not specified in the information released.

A family warning on confrontations

Manning's uncle, Charles Ahmad Mosley, said his nephew should not have confronted the teenagers and that their parents should have been called instead. He condemned the shooting and said the teenagers had no business being around guns.

"It should not have been resolved by confronting them," Mosley said, in reporting by Dallas Focal based on the warrant and the family. Mosley, who served a prison sentence and later founded Taqwa Ministries, a nonprofit that mentors prison inmates, said he hurts for the suspects as well as for his nephew.

Police have not released further details about the stolen gun, how the teenagers obtained firearms, or a court date. The case remains with Irving police.
