G2 Esports terminated the contract of its League of Legends head coach, Luka "Perkz" Perkovic, on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The decision came less than 14 hours after Perkz posted a long personal statement on X. Sheep Esports reported the split at 13:49 UTC, and Insider Gaming and TalkEsport confirmed it within the hour.
Perkz is one of the most decorated players in European League of Legends history. He won eight league titles and the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational with G2 as a player. His second spell at the club, this time as a coach, lasted about four months.
A long post, then a fast decision
Perkz opened his post shortly after midnight UTC on November 5. He called it his first and last honest post in a decade and said he wanted people to judge him for what he really stands for. He distanced himself from Andrew Tate and said he does not support or stand with the Tate brothers. He defended his past support for G2 founder Carlos Rodriguez, who he called a good mentor from his teenage years, while criticising how Rodriguez handled his own exit from the club in 2022.
The section that drew the strongest reaction covered his Catholic faith and abortion. Perkz called his view on abortion unshakeable and described abortion as murder because life is created at conception. He said it was one view he would never change. He also said he does not support war and criticised Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and Vladimir Putin. Reaction on X split fast. Some fans condemned the abortion comments, others accused G2 of punishing a personal opinion, and broadcaster Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere wrote that sometimes saying nothing is better than saying something.
What G2 said
Chief executive Alban Dechelotte signed the club statement on November 5. G2 did not name Perkz in it. The statement referred to a post shared the night before by the head coach of one of its teams.
"Last night, like many of you, we saw the statement shared by the Head Coach of one of our teams. G2 is a diverse and international organization with different people from all around the world," the statement said. "Some of the statements made last night do not align with G2's stance and values. We acknowledge that this statement hurt many of our fans, and we want to apologize for it. As a result, we have decided to terminate our collaboration with the individual."
A short second spell
Perkz returned to G2 in early July 2026 as a positional coach. The club named him head coach on July 10, 2026, ahead of the Esports World Cup, and Dylan Falco moved to an inactive role. In September, G2 swept Movistar KOI to win a record 20th LEC title and complete a clean sweep of the 2026 domestic season. The run ended at the World Championship. G2 went out in the Swiss Stage with a 1-3 record, and the club posted on October 31, 2026, that its Worlds run was over.
What comes next
G2 said it will now focus on rebuilding its staff and roster for next season. The club said it cannot communicate any changes until free agency officially opens. Reports in the esports press link Linas "Lyncas" Nauncikas with the jungle role and Vitality coach Pad with a strategic coach job. Both moves are reported only. Neither has been confirmed by G2.
