Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have completed a four-player trade ahead of the TATA IPL 2027 season. Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards move to Chennai. Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis move the other way, to Hyderabad. The IPL announced the completed deal in a media advisory on Nov 5, 2026. Reuters and ESPNcricinfo reported the same four players and the same fees.
The fees in the deal
Livingstone, the England all-rounder, joins Chennai at a reduced fee of INR 6 crore. Sunrisers had originally acquired him for INR 13 crore. Reuters put the reduced fee at 60 million Indian rupees, or 634,870 dollars, against the 130 million rupees Hyderabad paid to sign him. Edwards, the Australian seam-bowling all-rounder, also joins Chennai, at his existing fee of INR 3 crore.
Hyderabad take two bowlers from Chennai at their existing fees. Khaleel Ahmed, the left-arm fast bowler, moves at INR 4.8 crore. Nathan Ellis, the Australian fast bowler, moves at INR 2 crore. The advisory set out all four fees, and no other player or cash element was reported in the deal.
What each player brings
Reuters reported that Livingstone gives five-time champions Chennai added firepower in the middle order. Edwards arrives with a point to prove. Sunrisers signed him before he made his international debut for Australia, and ESPNcricinfo noted that Hyderabad had outbid Chennai to acquire him at the 2026 auction. A foot injury then ruled him out of IPL 2026, so he is still waiting to make his IPL debut, now in Chennai colours.
Khaleel returns to a club he knows. He represented Hyderabad from 2018 to 2021. For Chennai he claimed 15 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2025, then played five matches in IPL 2026 before a right quadriceps injury ended his season. Ellis is known for his variations and his work in the death overs. ESPNcricinfo reported that he played just two games for Chennai across two seasons after a hamstring injury kept him out of the previous IPL season.
The calendar around the trade
The trade lands in the busiest part of the IPL off-season. Franchises must submit their retention and release lists by Nov 17, 2026. ESPNcricinfo reported that the deadline was pushed back by two days, from Nov 15, 2026. The IPL mini-auction follows in Goa on Dec 16, 2026. This deal is a completed trade announced by the league itself, not reported interest or talks.
