Eli Lilly beat third quarter expectations on Thursday, reporting revenue of 24.4 billion dollars, up 39 percent, driven primarily by its weight loss and diabetes drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound. The company raised its full year revenue guidance to a range of 91.0 to 92.0 billion dollars, and its shares rose 4 percent in premarket trading.

Reuters reported that the 24.4 billion dollars in revenue topped analyst expectations of 22.61 billion dollars. Adjusted profit of 7.48 dollars per share also beat estimates of 6.26 dollars per share, according to LSEG data cited by Reuters. Lilly official release, carried by PR Newswire, gave reported earnings of 7.22 dollars per share and non-GAAP earnings of 7.48 dollars per share for the quarter.

Mounjaro and Zepbound carry the quarter

Third quarter sales of Mounjaro reached 10.72 billion dollars, topping Wall Street expectations of 10.16 billion dollars, Reuters reported. Zepbound brought in 5.35 billion dollars, ahead of estimates of 5.09 billion dollars.

Together, the two drugs accounted for more than half of Lilly revenue in the quarter, on the numbers in the release and the Reuters report. Their sales were the main driver behind the 39 percent revenue increase and behind the decision to raise the full year outlook on the same morning.

Revenue guidance rises, profit guidance trims

Lilly raised its full year revenue guidance to 91.0 to 92.0 billion dollars, increasing the midpoint by 5.5 billion dollars from a previous forecast of 85.0 to 87.0 billion dollars.

The profit side moved the other way. Lilly trimmed its adjusted profit outlook to 35.00 to 36.00 dollars per share. Reuters reported that 4.57 dollars per share of acquired research charges from recent deals, primarily related to the acquisitions of AtaiBeckley and Curevo, more than offset a 4.07 dollar improvement in underlying profit guidance at the midpoint. Both reported and non-GAAP earnings in the quarter included those 4.57 dollars of acquired in process research and development charges, compared with 0.71 dollars in the third quarter of 2025, according to the company release.

One off benefits inside the quarter

Third quarter revenue also included about 900 million dollars of benefits, Reuters reported, primarily 410 million dollars of Jardiance milestone payments, which Lilly said are the last it expects to receive, along with favorable adjustments to rebate and discount estimates.

Lilly chair and chief executive David A. Ricks said the company had another strong quarter, exceeding prior expectations and allowing it to raise the full year outlook. The quote was carried in coverage of the release syndicated from the company statement.

What investors took from the report

Shares rose 4 percent in premarket trading on Thursday after the results and the raised revenue outlook, Seeking Alpha reported. The move followed a quarter in which both of Lilly best known drugs beat sales expectations, revenue beat by close to 1.8 billion dollars against the LSEG estimate, and the full year revenue range moved up by 5.5 billion dollars at the midpoint, even as deal related charges trimmed the adjusted profit view.
