Terrance Markyce Davis, 34, of Detroit pleaded guilty on Tuesday to attempted murder of special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan said. Davis also pleaded guilty to firearm offenses. With the plea, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 17 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of life, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on March 3, 2027.

The plea closes the federal case against a man investigators described as a serial shooter who fired into homes and vehicles across Detroit over nine days in November 2025, seriously injuring one person, and then shot at the agents sent to arrest him.

The November 2025 shootings

According to court filings and the admissions Davis made at his plea hearing, between November 5 and November 13, 2025, he fired multiple rounds into houses and vehicles across Detroit. One person was seriously injured in the series of shootings. On November 14, 2025, ATF special agents obtained a warrant charging Davis with being a felon in possession of ammunition in connection with one of those shootings.

Ballistics testing later confirmed that the firearm Davis was carrying when he fled from agents was the same weapon used to shoot at the agents and the same firearm used in the earlier series of shootings, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The chase and the arrest

When agents tried to arrest Davis, he fled in his vehicle, carjacked another driver, and exchanged gunfire with ATF agents, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Michigan State Police disabled the stolen vehicle, and Davis ran on foot while still armed with a handgun. Detroit police officers shot him, and he was taken into custody.

"This defendant terrorized our streets and then tried to murder the federal agents who came to stop him," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in its account of the plea, crediting ATF agents, Detroit police and Michigan State Police with ending the run. James Deir of the ATF's Detroit office called Davis a poster child for what the agency and its partners prioritize, identifying and apprehending serial shooters in local communities, and said Davis terrorized Detroit neighborhoods by repeatedly shooting into homes and vehicles.

What happens next

The case was investigated by the ATF, the Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew R. Picek, John Turrettini and Jeremiah Smith. Davis stays in custody while he waits for the March 3, 2027 sentencing, when a federal judge will set a term between the 17 year minimum and life in prison.
