Jack Quinn put Buffalo ahead on a power play at 6:35 of the first period, scoring on a snap shot from the slot off passes from Zach Benson and Rasmus Dahlin. Thompson made it 2-0 at 15:38 of the second period, scoring on a snap shot from the right circle on a pass from Benson off the rush. The goal was the 222nd of Thompson's career with the Sabres and tied him with Rene Robert for ninth place in team history, according to the Reuters Field Level Media report.

Los Angeles cut the lead at 17:24 of the second period. Corey Perry scored on a power play when a one timer from Trevor Moore deflected in off him. It was Perry's first goal of the season. Andre Lee tied the game at 2-2 just 1:29 into the third period.

Thompson scores the winner on the power play

Thompson won the game at 13:40 of the third period, scoring on a power play one timer from the left circle off a pass across the slot from Quinn. Quinn finished with a goal and an assist. Benson and Dahlin each had two assists for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 27 saves. Anton Forsberg made 28 saves for Los Angeles.

Benson's two assists took his season total to 11, and Dahlin's two assists took his to seven. The Kings had tied the game early in the third and pushed for a winner at home, but they could not beat Luukkonen again after the Lee goal. Los Angeles fell to 4-7-2 and 1-4-0 at home. The Kings played without top line winger Adrian Kempe for the first time this season. Kempe, who has three goals and five assists, is day to day with an undisclosed injury, according to the Field Level Media report.
