The Cleveland Browns beat the Baltimore Ravens 13-10 at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, winning on Andre Szmyt's 37-yard field goal as time expired. Baltimore blocked Szmyt's first try from 42 yards on the last play, but the Ravens were offsides, and Szmyt made the shorter kick count. Cleveland scored all 13 of its points in the second half after trailing 10-0.
Both teams are now 4-2. Cleveland moves into first place in the AFC North, ahead of Baltimore on the division record and on Sunday's head to head win. The Browns had lost at the New York Jets in Week 5 and needed this one to get back into a share of first place.
Baltimore starts fast, then stops scoring
The Ravens played without Lamar Jackson, who missed his second game with an ankle injury. Tyler Huntley started and gave Baltimore a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Huntley threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cuevas, and Tyler Loop added a 34-yard field goal later in the quarter.
That was the end of Baltimore's scoring. Cleveland's defense held the Ravens scoreless for the last three quarters, sacked Huntley three times, and held Derrick Henry to 58 yards on 17 carries. Huntley finished 19 of 31 for 165 yards and the one touchdown.
A brutal first half for Cleveland
Cleveland's offense gave its home crowd almost nothing before halftime. Deshaun Watson was 3 of 9 for 24 yards in the first half, and the Browns managed three first downs and 46 yards as a team. They reached halftime down 10-0 with the game slipping away.
Szmyt got Cleveland on the board in the third quarter with a 48-yard field goal, his 25th made kick in a row. In the fourth quarter, Audric Estime ran in a 2-yard touchdown and Szmyt's extra point tied the game at 10-10.
Szmyt misses, then gets a second chance
Szmyt had a first chance to win it and missed. His 48-yard try with 3:40 left went wide left, ending his run of 25 straight makes, and Baltimore took over still tied.
The defense held, Baltimore punted into the end zone, and Cleveland took over at its own 20 with 1:59 left. Watson completed a 9-yard pass to Jaleel McLaughlin, then found Jerry Jeudy for 33 yards to the Baltimore 29. Jeudy finished with four catches for 69 yards. Watson finished 16 of 26 for 164 yards, and BrownsZone reported it was his fourth winning drive in the fourth quarter this season.
Cleveland ran the clock down and sent Szmyt out from 42 yards. Baltimore blocked the kick as time ran out, but officials ruled the Ravens offsides. Szmyt stepped back up from 37 yards and put it through for his second winning kick of the year.
The Browns travel to Tennessee to play the Titans next. Baltimore, which led this division game by two scores in the first quarter and never scored again, has to explain how first place got away in one half.
