An Se Young of South Korea beat PV Sindhu of India in the women's singles final of the BWF French Open in Paris on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The world No. 1 won 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 against the world No. 11 at the Arena Grand Paris. The French Open is a Super 750 tournament on the BWF World Tour. The result gave An her third straight French Open crown and her 10th title of the season.
Sindhu takes the first game, An answers
Sindhu started strongly and took the opening game 21-16. She held the early control in the match and forced An to chase the score. An then won the second game 21-11 to level the final at one game each. The change was clear in the rallies, as An raised the pace and Sindhu could not keep the lead she had built in the first game.
The deciding game was close at the start. An trailed 5-8 early in the third game, according to the Seoul Economic Daily report of the final. She then turned the momentum with a run of points and closed out the match 21-12. IANS, reporting the same final, gave the score from Sindhu's side as a 21-16, 11-21, 12-21 loss.
Eleven wins in eleven meetings
The win extended An's head-to-head record against Sindhu to 11-0. An had won each of their previous 10 meetings before Sunday, and both IANS and the Seoul Economic Daily recorded the new mark at 11-0 after the Paris final. Sindhu has still not beaten An in their meetings on the international circuit.
The numbers behind An's season also grew in Paris. She entered the final with a 65-1 win and loss record in 2026, IANS reported. The win took that record to 66 wins and one loss, the Seoul Economic Daily reported. It also extended her winning streak to 50 matches.
A fourth French Open title and a record career total
Sunday's title was An's fourth at the French Open in total. The count includes her title in 2019 and her titles in 2024 and 2025, so the 2026 win completed three straight titles in Paris. It was also her 10th title of this season.
Her career total of women's singles titles on the international circuit rose to 48 with the Paris win. The Seoul Economic Daily reported that the total broke her own all-time record. At world No. 1, and as the reigning Olympic champion, An added the new marks in the same final against a two-time Olympic medallist.
Sindhu's run to a first French Open final
For Sindhu, the final was still a strong week in Paris. It was her maiden French Open final, and her second Super 750 final of the year. She lifted the Japan Open title in July, beating Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in that final, IANS reported.
Sindhu reached the Paris final by beating Hina Akechi of Japan 21-10, 20-22, 21-16 in the semifinal. Her earlier rounds in Paris included a win over Supanida Katethong of Thailand, then wins over Riko Gunji of Japan and Chiu Pin-chian of Chinese Taipei in straight games.
She fell short of becoming the first Indian since 1998 to win the French Open title. Aparna Popat won the French Open in 1998, and no Indian player had won it since before Sindhu's run this week. Sindhu leaves Paris as runner-up, with the Japan Open title already won this year and a first French Open final now recorded.
