Sanford Health has started construction on a combined clinic and Lewis Drug store at 57th Street and Veterans Parkway in southeast Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the health system has confirmed. The Sanford 57th and Veterans Parkway Clinic will offer acute care, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and it will sit inside Founder's Crossing, the Good Samaritan Society development on the city's growing southeast side. Good Samaritan is part of Sanford Health.
What the clinic will hold
Plans for the nearly 30,000 square foot clinic include 34 exam rooms and five treatment rooms, along with radiology, therapy and walk-in lab services, SiouxFalls.Business reported on October 27. The site will add advanced imaging that most Sanford clinics do not carry. "This will have acute care and service areas, as well as advanced imaging. Most clinics will have X-ray, and we'll have CT and ultrasound services to help the diagnostic capabilities of the clinic and acute care," Andy Munce, president and CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls, told the outlet. Munce said adding acute care at the new site will take pressure off the next closest Sanford location, at 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue.
Lewis Drug will be attached to the clinic and will hold a Sanford Health Equip location inside it. Lewis Drug became a business unit of Sanford Health a year ago. "It's really a full-service store with a pharmacy," Munce said. The clinic and the store will connect directly to Good Samaritan at Founder's Crossing, so residents of the campus can reach health care, prescription services and home medical equipment without leaving the development.
A clinic for the whole southeast side
Munce said the project is not only for Founder's Crossing, where the first residents have started moving into independent living villas. Independent and assisted living apartments, memory care suites, short-term rehabilitation and a long-term care center are set to open at the campus over the next couple of years. "This is an absolute huge win to have the clinic as part of Founder's Crossing and the continuum of care that Good Samaritan provides," Munce said. "But the other piece is this is a clinic for the entire southeast side of Sioux Falls. As Veterans Parkway gets completed, this is a large hub, and this clinic serves that entire population."
Sanford has owned the land for 15 to 20 years, Munce estimated. TSP is the architect for the project and Fiegen Construction is the general contractor. Construction began earlier this month, KELO reported on October 28, and the clinic is expected to open in August 2028. The road work around it runs on a similar clock: Veterans Parkway is expected to reach from Interstate 90 to Western Avenue by late fall 2028, with the final segment from Western Avenue to Interstate 29 due by 2029.
