Sacramento Republic FC beat El Paso Locomotive FC 2-1 on Saturday night, November 7, 2026, in the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2026 USL Championship Playoffs. A sellout crowd of 11,569 at Heart Health Park in Sacramento watched the No. 2 seed Republic beat the No. 3 seed Locomotive and reach the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2023.

Jennings first, Mendez answers

Cal Jennings put Sacramento ahead in the 14th minute, scoring from an assist by Mayele Malango. The lead lasted seven minutes. Alex Mendez equalized for El Paso in the 21st minute, and the semifinal went into halftime level at 1-1.

El Paso created little after that. The Locomotive recorded only 13 touches inside the Sacramento penalty area in the whole match, and forward Rubio Rubin was held without a shot.

Benitez settles it

Michel Benitez scored the winner in the 57th minute, 12 minutes into the second half, from an assist by Memo Rodriguez. The goal was the first for Benitez since May 3 and his fourth of the season in the Championship.

Rodriguez finished with five chances created, and his assist on the winner was his 10th assist of the Championship campaign.

Sacramento won despite holding only 40.4 percent of possession. The Republic defended its penalty area, limited El Paso to those 13 touches inside the box, and closed out the final half hour without giving the Locomotive a way back into the match.

Fifteen unbeaten, and Albuquerque next

The win extended Sacramento's run to 15 consecutive games without a defeat, and it was a fourth straight win for the Republic. El Paso's season is over.

Sacramento now travels to face New Mexico United in the Western Conference Final. New Mexico, the No. 1 seed, beat Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 4-0 in the other semifinal on Saturday night, and it will host Sacramento at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque.

A semifinal won in the boxes

The numbers explain the shape of the night. Sacramento scored early, gave the goal back within seven minutes, and then spent the rest of the match protecting its area. El Paso had more of the ball, with Sacramento at 40.4 percent possession, but the Locomotive turned that possession into only 13 touches in the home penalty area and no shot at all for Rubin, its forward.

By the numbers
