Sidney Crosby scored two goals and passed Marcel Dionne for sixth place on the NHL all-time points list as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Tommy Novak also scored twice, Evgeni Malkin had three assists and Sergei Murashov made 26 saves as Pittsburgh snapped a four-game losing streak in the opener of a three-game California trip.
Novak strikes twice early
Pittsburgh led inside two minutes. Novak put a rebound past Darcy Kuemper at 1:52 of the first period, and he scored on another rebound at 5:10 to make it 2-0. Corey Perry cut the lead at 9:55, batting an airborne puck into the net after a shot came off the end boards. Egor Chinakhov restored the two-goal lead with a power play goal at 19:31 of the first period, and Pittsburgh took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Alex Laferriere scored on the power play at 3:07 of the second period to pull Los Angeles within 3-2. The Kings thought they had tied the game at 15:31 of the second when Adrian Kempe scored, but Pittsburgh challenged the play and the goal was wiped out for offside.
The milestone goal
Less than two minutes later, Malkin's one-timer deflected off Crosby and into the net at 17:13 of the second period. The goal was first credited to Malkin and later switched to Crosby. It was the 1,772nd point of Crosby's career, moving the 39-year-old Penguins captain past Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne into sixth place on the all-time list. Crosby had entered the game with 10 points in 16 games this season, and the goal put him 26 points behind Ron Francis, who sits fifth.
Los Angeles outshot Pittsburgh but could not beat Murashov again. Kuemper made 14 saves for the Kings. Crosby finished the night in the final minutes, scoring into an empty net with 1:16 left for his second goal of the game and his 1,773rd career point. Kris Letang contributed two assists for the Penguins.
The win gives Pittsburgh a lift at the start of the California swing after four straight losses. For Crosby, the night adds another line to a career list that keeps shrinking: Dionne is now behind him, and Francis is the next name ahead of him.
Malkin's three assists ran through the decisive goals. He set up Chinakhov's power play goal in the first period, took the one-timer that Crosby deflected in for the milestone goal in the second, and moved the puck to Crosby for the empty net goal at the end. Novak's two early goals gave Pittsburgh the lead it never gave back, and both came on rebounds in front of Kuemper in the first six minutes.
