A hit-and-run driver struck two cars and four pedestrians near the University of Central Florida in Orlando on Friday evening and fled the scene, leaving eight people injured in all, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

What troopers say happened

The crash happened at the intersection of University Boulevard and Technology Avenue, less than a mile west of the UCF campus and near the university Knight Library, News 6 reported. Troopers said early information shows an unidentified vehicle collided with two other vehicles, a 2020 Honda Civic and a 2025 Honda Civic, and also struck four pedestrians. Orange County Fire Rescue crews responded after reports that the pedestrians had been hit by a vehicle at the intersection.

All four pedestrians were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. One suffered serious injuries and three had minor injuries, troopers said. Three of the pedestrians were high school age students. One of the students was transported as a trauma alert, and the two other students were also taken to the hospital.

Emergency crews transported four additional patients from the scene. One person refused treatment. Counting everyone treated or taken to the hospital, the total number of patients in the incident reached eight, according to the highway patrol account carried by FOX 35 Orlando.

Driver fled, investigation is a criminal case

The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the scene after the crash, troopers said. Authorities have not released any details about the hit-and-run vehicle, and no description of the driver has been made public. Troopers have not said what caused the vehicle to hit the two cars and the pedestrians, and they have not announced any arrest.

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, which remains an active criminal investigation. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is also investigating. Leaving the scene of a crash that injures people is a criminal offense in Florida, and troopers are treating the Friday evening crash as a criminal case while they work to identify the vehicle that left.

A busy corner at the edge of campus

University Boulevard is one of the main roads serving the UCF area in east Orange County, and the Technology Avenue intersection sits just west of the campus edge, where students, residents and visitors cross on foot between the university and the businesses and housing along the boulevard. Friday evening is one of the busiest times of the week on the roads around the university. The crash scene drew fire rescue crews, troopers and sheriff's deputies to the intersection while the injured were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, the region's main trauma hospital in downtown Orlando.

Troopers said the investigation is still in its early stage and the information released so far is preliminary. Anyone who was near University Boulevard and Technology Avenue on Friday evening and saw the crash or the vehicle that left may hold information investigators need, but as of late Friday night the highway patrol had released no vehicle description for the public to watch for.
